I think it is certainly more traditional for women to wear skirts/dresses but I think pants are fine, as long as they are nice pants.

@MrsFuzzyFace:  How formal will the wedding be?  And what is the venue?

I’ve never worn pants to a wedding but I don’t think it’s necessarily faux pas to do so.  Fabric, style, cut, color, etc., also make a huge difference in how dressy an outfit looks; for a wedding people usually dress up.

I say wear what you like!  Providing it’s appropriate in terms of formality, I don’t think anyone will pay the blindest bit of notice.  Especially if you’re not someone who wears skirts or dresses in everyday life.  Perhaps going for a lighter colour might appease the naysayers?

It’s totally acceptable, IMO. It just has to fit the event’s dress code. There are many pants out there that are more formal than your average summer dress.

I went to a wedding recently (in summer!) where a female guest was wearing a 3-piece pant suit. She looked awesome.

@MrsFuzzyFace:  I think your outfit idea sounds fine.  😉

We had a formal wedding and quite a few of our female guests wore dress pants. I don’t know if season has anything to do with it (we were married in early fall but it was unseasonably warm) but I was far from offended by their wardrobe choice. Dress ’em up with a nice top and it’ll be fine.

Far more appropriate than the booty shorts I saw at a wedding I attended a few weeks ago.  With an nice blouse, I’m sure it’ll be fine!

I think it’s acceptable. I’ve worn pants to one wedding, it was early fall (read still sweltering hot in Toronto) and wore a really pretty top with it and a little jacket and heels. I felt weird at first wearing pants, but I looked good and the outfit was formal enough for the event.

I think for a summer wedding and especially a more casual one as you described, you can totally rock it too. Post pics of the outfit and we can tell you for sure if you want 🙂
