Y’all are probably going to think I’m a little nutty for this one.
Long distance boyfriend and I have been talking marriage for a while now; probably about a year. A couple months ago he sent me on a mission to a jeweler to see what I liked which was SO fun. We have talked about it here and there since then, too.
But he was in town visiting with me and me and his family over the holiday weekend and, for some reason, I got it into my head that “this is it!” Well, spoiler alert, it wasn’t. ๐๐
I thought I’d be disappointed, but it turns out I am just more excited! It kind of feels like someone is going to surprise me with Christmas morning one random day when I wake up, haha! And, especially being long distance (with his return date being a year from now), it’s really fun to have something to look forward to!
He and I are planning a beach vacation with his parents in October. Maybe then? Maybe not! He is having fun making me squirm (I’m so darn nosey and investigative; I always think I have it all figured out), and I’m having fun playing pretend-detective. He tells me that he would never do it when he thought I expected it and that I will be totally blindsided by it when it happens. My competitive brain hears that as a challenge ๐ but I figure I’ll let him have his fun and just enjoy the precious time I do get to spend with him.
He’s so darn special. I can’t wait! (But don’t worry, I will ๐)

Haha! I know how you feel!! After we picked out the ring, and I knew it was in the house, I was the same way, but on a daily basis! He’d call me upstairs or something, and I’d check my hair and consider changing my outfit and he’d want help taking the trash out or something! I would laugh and just get excited for the next event!
And TBH, the one night I didn’t expect it is the night he did it!

I did the same thing, and the suspense really is sort of fun. There was one night when we were in the car leaving FH’s parents’ house, and he goes, “I have something for you. It’s small, and metal.” And I looked at him with eyes as big as dinner plates, and he was super confused and goes “what’s your deal?” It was a beer bottle cap he had squished in half into a little taco, cause he knows I think it’s funny when he does that, lol. Whoooooops.

I’ve been doing the same thing lately! A couple months ago he left a post-it note on our dresser with a bunch of ring specs written on it, so my mind started racing. We went to Chicago a couple weeks later and I was almost positive he was going to propose. Nope! I’ve had a couple other “this is it!” moments since then but no dice. My nails, hair, and makeup are pretty much always done whenever we leave the house, just in case haha. We’re going to Boston next week, so maybe then! We’ll see.

I loved reading your post. I feel like I have been disappointed lately because I know its coming and hasn’t yet. I am the worst at keeping secrets and can’t wait until I can tell everyone the good news. I think I need to just change my outlook and make it fun like you mentioned. What are great attitude you have!!

I love your attitude!! I’m going to try and adopt it while I wait for a proposal! Last night So asked me if I had any work to do in the evening today because he had a present for me. I got really excited and didn’t want to spoil the surprise so I didn’t ask any questions. He started giving me hints like it’ll take a little manual labor and it’ll fix the issue of the dog digging holes. I was pretty sure by that time that it wasn’t a proposal so I asked what it was and it turns out that he got some sod for us to lay in the yard to fix our grass hahahaha. I just had to laugh at myself lol.

wcky711 : I absolutely LOVE your attitude about this! Most of us bees (including) myself make ourselves miserable with the waiting and anticipating. I am going to try to look at it in a more positive light, like you!

I am one bee who got a very fast proposal so I never had the “waiting period” really. (he told me from day 1 he was going to marry me)
However after he asked for ring size and details he said he had to do it early to not tip me off to the time.
I was 100% certain he was proposing this month, on his first visit to my country (LDR) and was picking nice places to take him so he could do it ๐
He completely blindsided me and did it back in August the day after I met his family!!! I totally thought I had it all sussed out – we are both competitive too lol. He was so chuffed I had no idea. We had 2 flights across the US where he had the ring in his pocket!!

Well, ladies, no proposal on our trip! ๐๐ In hindsight I totally should have known. He always tells me that he will make sure I have no clue and will do it when I least expect it. I’m sure he will wait until I’m raggedy and in my at-home clothes hahaha. I just hope my first reaction isn’t “Dangit! You got me!!” But, knowing him, he would love it and never let me live it down haha.
Funny story that I think you’ll appreciate: we had been by the pool all morning and went to the little restaurant next door for lunch. When lunch was over boyfriend took his daughter down to look for some seashells while his mom, dad, and I stayed to settle up tabs and get to-go drinks. We were sitting there just enjoying the shade and his dad looked over out of nowhere and said (totally as a joke), “So, since you’re going to be our daughter in law, what are you bringing to the table?” Hahaha I almost fell out of my chair it was so funny. Boyfriend’s mom just threw her hands up in the air like ‘oh gosh, here we go again!’ and she and I just died laughing. When he said that I thought for SURE I had it all figured out. Maybe they’re in on it together ๐ค๐คฃ When I told boyfriend about it on our way home he absolutely cracked up laughing and loved it.
So, the wait continues! And we had the most amazing vacation! I can’t even remember the last time I got to spend a whole week with him and it felt like heaven. He even got to stay an extra night with just me before he left to go back to work ๐ I’ll keep updating you on my suspicions and status if you’re interested (goodness knows my mom is OVER it hahaha).
janne91 : Oh my gosh, how funny!! Oh that would just eat me up that I had no idea the whole time haha! Did he love that it was right there in his pocket and you had no idea?? Or was he nervous? Mine would relished every single second of it ๐ What an awesome story! I love that for you.
graced : Yessss to the outfit ordeal! I take forever to get ready anyways – I always have, I’m a perfectionist and i just call it a Hallmark of my personality – but I was taking extra care to look really nice on the trip. And packing took SO long. He just shook his head at me over and over and kept making jokes about how we will run drills when we are married so I can shave some minutes off my routine ๐
pineappleprincess92 : Aahhh how exciting!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! Yes, savor the suspense! It’s really fun if you embrace it!
