I really don’t think that a tie would go with that shirt. Here is a picture of the shirt in question for everyone else that doesn’t want to click on the link.

The shirt you posted is very casual!  I also don’t think that short sleeves will go well with a tie.  Is there a reason a pocket needs to be on the shirt?

*edit: I noticed you were getting married in Jamaica.  I totally get why you would want a short sleeve shirt.  If you are getting married on a beach, I would do short-sleeve, but nix the tie.

@dynamic_duo: Then I would do a white cotton dress shirt with a plain spade pocket or no pocket at all.  If the guys get hot, they can roll up their sleeves, which will look cute and beachy casual.  The shirt shouldn’t be very casual if you have a tie, because a tie is typically a more formal look.

Sorry, I get a little passionate about menswear 🙂  Its what I do for a living!

I agree that the shirt posted is really casual, but I love your FI’s look in the last picture. I know it’s hot, but I think it would look better with a long-sleeved shirt.

Whatever shirt you find, I think it should have one pocket. The pocket should also not have a button if at all possible. That’s the only thing that jumped out to me. Now, if he’s wearing his jacket… it won’t matter because you won’t be able to see either pocket. And if he wants to take off the jackets during the reception for a more casual look, just tell him to take off the tie too and that shirt will look perfect with the pants! 🙂

@dynamic_duo: Oh, well if he’s wearing that shirt in the picture, I see no problem wearing it with a tie. I’ve always heard people say “short dress shirts on men are ridiculous” and then making fun on Dwight on The Office. But, I guess I grew up around my dad and brothers who always wore short shirts with ties. Oh well 🙂
