I think brides want to make a statement with their bridesmaid dresses. I mean it’s a way you get to express your style but if it doesn’t quite work, you still look awesome in your wedding dress. SO I think brides just get carried away with their vision, knowing they’re not the ones that look pants if it goes tits up. I imagine they think their bridesmaids look amazing though.

I’m sure some brides make them look bad on purpose, but they’re just a very insecure minority.

I don’t think this is a fair statement. I am just having my sisters as bridesmaids and they are both built  very differently so I opted for same color, length, and material but different styles. I want them both to wear something flattering but I also want them both covered – moreso my little sister as I do not want the pictures I have for the rest of my life of my special day to have her bust as the focus. That’s my personal preference though and she knows I would rather not have that be a focal point. I want my sisters to look/feel beautiful though!

A cousin did just that.  I have no idea what her dress looked like or anything. But my oh my. The poor bridesmaids. Ruffled avocado type yellow jersey with fluffy petticoats for skirts. The tops just didn’t fit, they all looked like sacks with butterfly wing type sleeves. To make it even more awful, there was black ribbon trim. Demented bumblebees.

Myladies are wearing long teal dresses. They all look pretty at least in samples, I’m sure they’ll be gorgeous come my wedding day.

serenitea:  Never!!! I am going same route as you.  I picked a pallet and let my girls get whatever dress they want (just no full lace, won’t go with our modern wedding).  I am letting them pick all their own jewelry, and they can do whatever they want with their hair and makeup (we are paying) and any black shoes they want.  I want them to feel wonderful and beautiful too, not like I ‘made’ them wear anything they didn’t like.  I too am baffled by how many brides pick just ugly dresses.
