Kings of Leon (yeah, before they were ‘big’) 🙂
Kings of Leon (yeah, before they were ‘big’) 🙂
I like to see myself as ahead of the curve in the fashion department.
– The chunky Michael Kors watch! I got my gold one almost 4 years ago!!
– Long Champ bag — got my first one in 2006 – I know they have been around much longer, but they weren’t “TRENDY” until a few years ago.
MsVoyageur : Me, too! Hello… look at my name! It was my fav book in HS and I had an amazing time teaching the book to high school students as well! I can’t ever turn down Leo though!!! I will definitely see the movie!
prettypincushion : YES! I remember listening to Dane Cook clips on Napster – circa 2001/2002!!!
The tv show The Big Bang Theory. I started watching it right off the bat in season one. I remember talking to friends about tv shows and they asked me what I was watching on the discovery channel. Now I feel like there’s a ton more people watching it, including my friends.
French themed decor/parties/etc. Although I don’t know how “mainstream” they are, I see French themed things popping up more & more.
PANDAs! I have been called ShandaPanda my whole life and have collected them for EVER and now they are everywhere. I was able to find a panda wallet at walmart I love that I can find the stuff easier BUT I hate that everyone else is into them because I feel like it is my thing…
Harry potter My grandpa bought me each book as it came out I hated waiting for the next one to come out!
Emily Giffin the author of Some thing borrowed (the book is so much better than the movie)
Same with the book Dear John it is one of my favorite books but the movie while I was so excited for the movie to come out I think it fell short of the book
ipod and adele
the colour grey for a wedding colour with splashes of a nice yellow or pink or purple. Seems everyone is doing it
I am usually all on board with my favorite things becoming mainstream, but I was so grumpy when the Hunger Games became this huge scene with all my coworkers/students. I’d been raving about the books for over a year and everyone told me “oh, that doesn’t sound like something I’d like” or “no, but thanks for the offer” when I’d try to lend the books out. Fast forward a year and they’re dressing up for the midnight premiere. I would have been so excited to have someone to discuss the books with if they hadn’t all been so snobby when I’d tried to recommend the book before, but it just left a sour taste in my mouth and I didn’t want to talk about them at all. Students would come up to me “oh man, have you read these awesome new books?” YES I TRIED TO GET YOU TO READ THEM LAST YEAR LEAVE ME ALONE.
(yes, obviously I’m still bitter.)
Pin-up style hair and clothing. It’s been my thing for the last 10 or so years. Now it seems like everyone wants to dress that way.
Bugged me for a whole miliseconed.
Mostly music and books before they became movies and everyone wanted to read them
LMFAO. I would sing and dance around to Party Rock all the time and people were like ‘WTF are you singing?’ and I’d have to dig up the video and they’re like “This is kind of catchy”. And like 6 months later it finally got big on the radio, by then I was almost sick of it lol
I was also a fan of The Black Keys before they became better known
To Wicked fans
Gregory Maguire stated in an interview that he sold mini-series adaptation rights to ABC several years ago and that non-musical adaptation of the book might happen in addition to the possible Wicked musical movie.
I was the kid who had the mom that drove the big giant suburban – back before it was cool to have a suburban. Tahoe’s weren’t even on the radar then. 😉
For me personally, it was UGGS. They were not popular at all in the states back when I was in high school, and my boyfriend’s mom bought me a pair. I was like WTF am I supposed to do with these? haha I started wearing them and was in heaven…so comfortable. Eventually they became popular, but I was wearing them way before it became cool in my area.
Funny enough I went to college in FL and on chilly days (like – February when it’s 65..haha) I would wear them to class and people would laugh about them…in a joking/nice way. All the girls tried them on, and after that you saw a huge rush of all the women in my major wearing UGGS.
Modest Mouse and the name Addison!
Probably electronic dance music. I remember going to see Paul Oakenfold, DJ Irene, Carl Cox and DJ Micro spin when I was in college….I literally had to DRAG my best friend with me because no one else I knew liked any kind of electronic music. Flash forward to now, 10 years later, and that same friend of mine pops in a Skrillex CD in my car.
