I bought my dress last fall, and LOVE it. Lately, however, I am having Dress Doubt Disorder (read this term on a Bee’s blog) about a particular issue…sweat.
Our wedding is in August, and it *could* be very hot that day. What if I sweat through the dress? It’s a satin-type dress… I never thought of that when I bought it. And it’s form-fitting. I don’t sweat profusely normally, but I do sweat under the arms and in some other areas.
It would break my heart to not be able to wear my dress . But at the same time I would be mortified to have sweat stains visible to everyone. Although, that has rarely happened to me, unless I am sitting for a very long time in summer heat (for example on a patio outside at a restaurant or bar).
Has anyone worn a form-fitting, or satin dress in hot weather? Or do you have any recommendations on how to prevent, or deal with, possible sweat stains?
Our ceremony is in a church, I’ll be standing the whole time (facing the crowd), –there is no air conditioning in the church–, but the reception is in an air conditioned hotel afterwards.
This is a picture of my dress (it’s Essence of Australia D1098) not in my size though, I had it clipped in the back. So it might fit differently when it comes in. And I’m standing on something, I’m not usually that tall:

Start using clinical strenth deodorant now to decrease underarm sweating.
And if you’re really serious about it you could ask your doctor about botox injections to decrease sweating.
Or just keep lots of tissues handy on the wedding day in case of sweaty-ness. Good luck!

you could go to your dr and get Rx deoderant. it works awesome, when I had it I used it on both underarms and under my boobs…I know a little strange but those suckers get sweaty!

first of all… WOW dress !! I loooooooooooove it !!! I think you should be ok ! like PP said, start using clinical strength deodorant to help prevent it. On the big day, keeping tissues around or a handfan could very well do the trick. But dont think about it too much. Remember to enjoy your day !! 🙂

I agree with the above posters – get a clinical strength deodorant from the pharamacy. I had some pretty bad under-arm sweating and the deodorant stopped it, it was fantastic! Maybe go see your doctor to find out all your options too, he/she might be able to recommend something for you.

Beautiful dress! This is going to sound weird, but I read it on the Glamour website a few months ago, and apparently it works great. They recommended getting the clinical strength deodorant, applying it at night after showering, then adding a piece of clear plastic wrap (yes, the type you use to cover food) on your armpits. Then put on a shirt that’s tight enough to keep the wrap in place while you sleep. Repeat a few times before the wedding.
It sounds crazy, but apparently helps reduce sweat by helping the deodorant penetrate deeper into your skin. I haven’t tried it myself, but who knows? It might actually work.

- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
I’m considering buying and using the hyperhydrosis contol wipes by MedeTate, but they are very expensive.

Thank you for all your suggestions and support ladies! Very much appreciated. I will consider all those options, and will discuss with my doctor too.
My dress should be coming in in the next few weeks…so I think once I try it on again, it might give me a good idea of which areas of the dress, are most at risk for the sweat stains.

@mcklough: I do the same thing when I am wearing certain shirts! You do what you gotta do!
