my boyfriend of 5 years has proposed to me @ walt disney world over our christmas vacation. it has to be the HAPPIEST day of my life. the ring is gorgous and the love of my life just proposed to me in my favorite place ever. so as you can see im a happy bride to be 🙂 with our wedding date coming closer (08.26.2011) we started looking for our wedding bands. ahh! super exciting to see him try on bands and then it was my turn. i already had one in mind that i happened to see when i was with my girls at the mall and it was still there so i tried it on.. and it broke my heart </3 i thought the ring would be perfect because i have a 3 stone ring with baguette sidings (white gold) and the band had baguette diamonds wrapping around so i thought it would make my engagment 3 stone ring pop.. which it did but like a sore thumb. i never noticed it till i wore both rings together & my e-ring seemed really yellow (maybe brown?) and the diamonds seemed yellow. i even had the e-ring cleaned by the jewerly lady thinking it was just really dirty or something … but afterwards it still had this discoloration compared to the band.. so turns out that the quality of the ring or diamonds is lower then the quality of the band and diamonds for the wedding band. i mean i know the ring wasnt perfect it has some black dots in the middle diamond but i didnt think much of it. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the wedding band i picked out .. but im scared its not gonna look right when i wear it together with my wedding band.. i could buy a new one but i dont want him to feel like i dont like or appreciate my ring which is not true and on top of it i know we dont have the money right now to spend on a new ring.. what should i do ?

get a custom made band with diamonds similar in quality to your engagement ring or just choose a plain band with no diamonds.

How about wearing your e-ring on your right hand, and your wedding banc on your left hand. I see that quite a bit.

Ditto to both of those responses. Or can you exchange the diamonds in the wedding band for diamonds similar in quality to your engagement ring? I think it would make a big difference.

I would not choose have the wedding band made with lower quality stones just to match unless you are 100% sure you will never upgrade your e-ring in the future. For me, I cannot imagine replacing/upgrading my e-ring, and definately cannot imagine ever changing my (future) wedding band. Those rings are what he proposed with and will put on my finger on our wedding day and are not to be replaced. With that said, since you have mentioned wanting to upgrade your e-ring when more finances are right, I would make sure to get a wedding band that I loved no matter what to be my one and only band, since most people seem more ‘attached’ to their wedding ring than e-ring. Then work on the e-ring later. All depends on how attached you are to each.

You can always upgrade the stones on your e-ring later, to a higher color and clarity grade. I would buy the band you want, wear your e-ring on your right hand for now since it bothers you to see the differences side by side, then someday when you can afford to, replace the stones. I’m sure your guy would understand your wanting to do that at some point, if he looks at the set together and sees the difference himself.

Ooh this happened to me too! I always new that the centre stone in my e-ring was a bit cloudy and had an inclusion in it but I didn’t think it was a big deal – til I tried on channel set wedding bands with it! The bands were so sparkly and it became very apparent that my centre stone is not that sparkly in comparison. Luckily my centre stone isn’t that big (and I have a very laid back FI) cos I decided to have my stone upgraded to a clearer one. It’ll be much clearer and sparkier so it should be good – upgrading to a clearer stone only cost me $275 – well worth it to have nice sparkly rings! I love my e-ring so bad and I’m so excited to be getting bands to go with it!

same thing happened to me, my situation is a lil tougher though because my engagement ring and wedding band are soldered together. I think I may take it to the jeweler to find out how much it would cost to upgrade my yellow tinted diamond to another one. I don’t want to hurt my husband’s feelings at all, but at the same time the color difference bothers me a lot simply because the diamonds in my wedding band are so much whiter than my 1 carat solitaire

I’m not sure about the diamonds being yellow-ish, but I know white gold tends to get yellow-ish after being worn for a while. The jeweler can ‘dip’ your ring to bring it pristine white gold again. Ask your jewelry store for more details.
(I didn’t read through all the responses so sorry if I’m repeating something that was already said.)
