The work culture is different (British expat in Asia), I get that. They’re about 30 years behind the UK in terms of attitude to our industry.
It’s Sunday night, just over 45 minutes ago at 10.30pm I get a call from my work (not my boss but a superior nonetheless). “You have to be on site at 7.30am, here’s the address…”
You have got to be kidding me! It’s twice as far as my office.
I can’t live like this, it happens ALL THE TIME.
I bravely said to one of my bosses (a European) on Friday how I was never told anything until the last minute, we had just attended a conference with our parent company and I explained I was told about it literally 30 seconds beforehand “We’re going to X venue, pack your bags” I thought it was a job and I was completely inappropriately dressed (dress-down Friday), our General Manager didn’t pass the memo on so everyone from our company was in jeans.
I’m angry, but I’m also close to tears. This is my LIFE we’re talking about. I’m always exhausted and out of the loop, I know it’s partly my fault as I only speak English, but it’s supposed to be an English speaking office. I’m not a robot.
I get bought McDonalds or similar for every meal when I’m onsite and it’s making me ill, I have constant cramping, bloating and my IBS is irritated. And I’m getting fat. It’s rude to refuse it culturally and because of the heat (90) it’s difficult to bring in something of my own.
I could go on about things that upset me, I’m so passionate about what I do but I need rest. My colleages will work 100 hour weeks but just don’t care about the job, they do the minimum.
