Long time lurker, first time poster so I apologise if this is long winded!
My SO proposed last Tuesday with a cheap little novelty ring so we could choose my E ring together. I’d been looking into moissanite rings but couldn’t find anywhere that carried them local to us. We went shopping and I picked out a diamond ring, later realising it was an ‘illusion setting'(?). After the initial excitement I realised he’d paid a good chunk of money, for a not so good chunk of diamond and decided to look into moissanite again.
We found that the UK moissanite website had a store in Birmingham, just under a 2 hours drive away from us and decided to take a trip the next day after returning the first ring. I’d read a lot online and on here about the colours of moissanite and how it can be quite moody so I was a little nervous!
We were greeted by a lovely lady and let her know I was looking for a yellow gold solitaire ring and she brought down a few trays with lots of different options. When the first tray was placed down in front of me, the stones looked quite yellow and my heart sank… The first tray was largely on white gold with a few yellow gold options, and when my eyes settled on the yellow gold I was instantly relieved. The stones looked clear as day!
I soon settled on a 6.5mm (1 carat equivalent) round stone on a 9ct yellow gold band and started looking for a matching wedding band. I’ve decided the band from this set (http://www.moissanite.co.uk/moissanite/rings/eternitys/rsw0007-140.html) but in 9ct YG, we’re just waiting on a price as the lady’s manager was on holiday and she didn’t have a price in the YG.
So, this is my ring! I’m absolutely in love with it. Thanks for all of the information posted here, it really helped me to decide!
I really love moissy now, not only for the improved prices on diamonds but the ethical reasons too. I’ll be proudly recommending it to everyone who gives me the time of day! 🙂
Now we need to get our plans together!

Congrats (and welcome to the most secret club except for on the Bee)! I seriously think some jewelry store lighting does that to moissy too (especially if near a cz or diamond for comparison because they naturally show a bit more color.
We had a local store order in a FB Moissy for us and were kind of taken aback by how yellow it was (the saleswoman also set it directly next to a colorless CZ for comparison for some reason….)
We ordered one online to compare and honestly it’s gorgeous (and sitting on my finger on my own moissy ering!). We have diamond sidestones in the ring but the center stone is a moissy beauty! It shows some color in certain lighting but I love it! Most of the time it’s sparkly white!

Thank you everyone! I’m glad you guys love it as much as I do. I’d been debating a twig ring for a while in my head but I’m happy I went for this in the end. Timeless and classic, I won’t (hopefully!) get bored of it!
MsKnitter: Super excited to be in the club hahaha! :)
I hadn’t been to any other shops that stock moissy but I get the impression, especially from your experience, that they would try to put you off it for some reason! I was so grateful for the help we received from the Moissanite UK store, I think it really helps to find a specialist stockist who actually knows the stone.

beckyberry: You won’t get bored of your solitaire! You can always jazz it up with a fun wedding band or a few skinny blingy bands. It is a perfect jumping off point!
We ended up ordering the stone online but had it set at a local jeweler in one of their settings that we loved (FI picked out the final deets!). The jeweler was very knowledgeable about moissanite and was happy to work with it. (They even stock moissy in their store)! That was the selling point for us. Took some shopping around, but glad we went with a local jeweler.
