khuddles :  I think it’s beautiful! It is definitely loose fitting on you, which may be where they are getting the “matronly” vibe. but i think if it gets taken in in the bust and waist, it will be a stunner!! you’re right, that will definitely sparkle beautifully in a dim lit room.

also, if you love it, that is all that matters!

I don’t really like it. It looks like a night gown. But if you do love it…rock it. You have the body for it

I like the dress shape a lot. It definitely looks like it needs a bit of support in the bust, but the embellishment is very wintery! One thought I had is that your seamstress might be able to easily show you some alternative straps options- there are so many ways that could be easily changed- maybe slightly thicker cream velvet? Maybe tulle overlay that fans out on the back, maybe transparent illusion netting? Or beading. And I don’t even think you need to change the straps, it’s more just seeing how it affects the dress- maybe you’ll confirm you love it as is, maybe youll find an even extra omph.

It is too loose on you now, it needs fitting but I think it’s very pretty.  I love the shawl idea.

I almost “can’t even” with the lingere comments. There are see-through, skin tight, cut down to belly button, mesh dresses ALL over the bee, but THIS looks like lingere? C’mon now.

Anyways bee. I like the dress, I love the shrug, and it sounds like it fits your venue and vision perfectly! I can’t wait to see your recap, hopefully with a million pics in front of the tree!

khuddles :

It’s lovely, though clearly too big and loose in the whole bodice area. I hope your wedding is either in the Southern Hemisphere or in a very well heated venue if not OP !

khuddles :  If you love it, wear it! I think the alterations will do wonders to the fit, and then it will definitely have the “wow factor” once you are all ready and done up. Also all of these lingerie comments are making me feel a bit awkward and corrupt because my lingerie collection looks very different to that…

khuddles :  I think it looks amazing on you and that it’s so elegant and romantic. The shape is very classic, and I don’t think it looks matronly at all–in fact, the back is sexy while also being classy.

If this is the first dress you’ve tried on that you love and makes you feel beautiful, that is a strong indicator that this is the dress for you. You are picking a dress for YOU and no one else. Pick the dress that you love and makes you feel beautiful.

I think that this dress goes beautifully with the venue described, and I think that the faux fur wrap will go beautifully with it, as well. It’s a very Old Hollywood glam vibe and it’ll be GORGEOUS. I’d probably put a sparkly hair comb in your hairstyle, and do a red lip–it’ll be festive for the season and look amazing. Though you do whatever suits you–you’ll look stunning either way 🙂

megm1099 :  I agree, I think that sheath dresses (the dress shape of this dress) don’t get enough love because they’re not as dramatic as some other shapes. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people expect wedding dresses to be super dramatic (ex. ballgown or mermaid/trumpet dress) and frilly and over the top. But sheath dresses are probably the most classic and timeless dresses, just because they are so glamorous. They are also the hardest to pull off because the shape can be unforgiving if you don’t have the right body for it, which OP obviously does.

One of my good friends got married in a sheath dress similar to the one that OP posted, except it was even more plain. When she tried it on, people seemed to be expecting something much more dramatic and made comments about it looking like a “nightgown” and not being exciting. I felt bad because that was so rude and this was the dress my friend really loved. The comments made her question things a little, but my friend stuck to her guns and got the dress she loved even though people weren’t as enthusiastic as she was hoping they’d be. She was really happy she got the dress she loved in the end. And all the friends who had initially been hesitant agreed that this was HER dress and looked amazing on her.

Everyone should be made to feel beautiful in a dress that suits their body and that they love, especially because the wedding dress is about the bride and no one else.

claroquesi :  I think that the wrap you posted is very avant garde and could possibly go with the OP’s dress if she likes that kind of style, but I completely disagree that a faux fur shawl/shrug wouldn’t go with her dress. I think it does go with her dress, and it’d give me an Old Hollywood classic type of vibe.

In my honest opinion, many wedding dresses will look NICE on most women. When I was the Maid of Honor for my sister, I remember one of the ladies at the shop helping her try on dresses said something that I will always remember. My sister tried on a very pretty ball gown shaped dress. We all agreed it looked very nice. However, the lady said to her, “the dress is very pretty. A lot of dresses you try on will look pretty. But on your wedding; you don’t want to just be pretty—you can be pretty every other day. On that day, you want to be BEAUTIFUL”. My sister ended up getting a dress that was, in fact, beautiful. And my advice to you and all brides is to get a dress that makes you LOOK and FEEL beautiful. I believe many women try on “the one” and they know. I feel like this dress is “the one” and you already know =)
