I said I love you first, about 4 months in. He said he didn’t want to say it back until he knew he meant it 100% for sure and said it 6 months in (2 months after I did). Mine was more spontaneous whereas I think his was a bit more planned.

I have the silliest story, actually! I love telling it. It was about, oh, six/seven months into our relationship. He was helping me study for my Russian class, telling me English phrases and having my translate then. So he gets to the flash card that says, ‘I love you.’ And I, instead of going “ya lyublyu tebya,” like I was meant to, say, “I love you, too.” In my defense, I’d been thinking it for weeks! I kinda immediately froze up, started babbling. Like, “I didn’t mean, well, I did mean but,” and just really obviously flustered. Anyway, he kissed me, told me he loved me for real, and still teases me about it to this day.

10 years ago, we had been dating for maybe 3 months, I was super wasted and said “Do you love meeeee” (drunkingly and annoying as F probably lol) and he said “of course I love you” and we just said it from then on lol

FI and I knew a few months in that we were with the right person. I think it was about two months after we’d started dating. We were laying in bed together on Valentine’s Day and his I love you came with the talk about someday moving in together. A little cliche but he made me so happy when he said it. He knows I’m not big on Valentine’s Day flowers etc so he got me a blank book and a really nice pen he knew I’d appreciate. I’m a writer so it was probably the most thoughtful gift anyone’s ever given me.

About 4/5 months in, we were cuddling and talking about anything and everything. I don’t remember what I said, but his response was “I lo..whoops” and I didn’t hear the beginning at all, I just said “Whoops? What whoops?” since I was confused and had no clue why something was ‘whoops’. He was a little shy about it but he came out and told me he loved me, I beamed and kissed him and then remembered to say it back – I knew I loved him for a while, I just wanted him to say it first. He said he knew he loved me for a while, but was nervous if I was there yet or not hence the “whoops”. I had the biggest smile on my face the rest of the night. We say whoops from time to time in homage to that night! 🙂

Charliejeorge :  I said it first, which I NEVER thought I would do!  We had only been dating a couple of weeks, and we were actually in a small argument on the phone (I have no idea what about now) and I just blurted out “but I love you!”.  It was so not chill.  He told me he loved me too, and we got engaged 6 weeks later.

FI told me he loved me before we were even together. We had been friends for a while and we both knew we liked each other but we had both recently come out of long relationships and were trying to hold off getting together just until we were sure we were ready.

but just before we did get together he told me he loves me

We had been friends for about ten years before we got together, so we had loved each other in that way for a long time. I never had to wonder if he loved me; it was a matter of transitioning into being ‘in love’. He was the first to do that. smile

We were in his truck, driving to dinner with friends. I have a tendency to be over analytical and I had been reading about “appropriate time frames in which to say I love you” because we had only been together 3 months and I felt like I loved him but I felt like it might be inappropriate to say it because we hadn’t been together that long.  So I started this whole schpeel about “so, I’ve been reading about love and dating and I don’t think it has been long enough, but I’m going to say it anyway, and you don’t have to if you don’t want to…” etc etc and he just goes “DesertGypsy, I love you.” and I said “I love you too!” and was all relieved that he didn’t think I was nuts.

About 4 months into dating and we were laying in bed one morning. He said it first and me being the most awkward person in the world replied with “Really? Are you sure?  before I said it back. He is really bad a hiding his thoughts and a couple weeks before that I would find him staring at me and kept thinking he was going to say it, so I was prepared, just ended up being completely “me”.  He later told me that was probably one of the scariest moments he’s had just waiting for me to say it back.
