Ya, I’d drop the offensive theme. Unless you yourself are part of a tribe, as in, you are Native American, that’s super uncool. Would you have a Bride Coven and dress like witches?

Obviously the word “tribe” isn’t owned by any one race or group, and means a collection of people, but you can’t argue that’s what you mean when you accompany it with arrows, block lines and colors, feathers, and other Native themes and colors. You shouldn’t just take other people’s cultural items and themes to make a party.

You wouldn’t do a “tribal” theme with African elements. You wouldn’t do a “tribal” theme with Jewish elements. Don’t do a “tribal” theme with Native American elements.

The only people who can say that alleged cultural appropriation is NOT offensive are those whose culture is allegedly being appropriated. OP, please rethink this.

SLOBee :  and even then they can only speak for themselves – not the culture as a whole.

I agree with others, I think “bride tribe” on its own is okay but ditch the theme of your picture.

OMG Please do not do this!!! People will feel embarassed for you, this is in such poor taste. You do not want to look back on this years from now and cringe over how oblivious you were to the cultural appropriation you were committing. Just don’t.

It’s so easy to choose a theme that isn’t stealing from or mocking America’s indegenous peoples who were victims of mass genocide.

carolinabelle :  True, and if only one person from a culture told me it was offensive to them, I’d respect that.

sheheartsjay : I really don’t think bride tribe is bad in any way… according to websters a tribe is

  • a group of people that includes many families and relatives who have the same language, customs, and beliefs

  • : a large family

  • : a group of people who have the same job or interest

I really think people get too sensistive on here and attack people but anyway here are some ideas…I am not too goo with hashtags but

#tribeanderson #bridetribetakesVI #bridetribeinusvi #andersonbridetribe #bridetribeanderson #shesbridetribe

Have fun! Sounds like youll have an amazing time! 🙂
