I made Engagement Chicken last night.
No miracle results or proposal or huge declaration of anything. Just full tummies…and enough leftovers for a week. Tonight we will have Enagement Tacos. Then maybe Engagement Soup with rice and potatoes later in the week.
I made a roaster just under 7lbs. Seasoned it 3 ways with our secret family recipe for seasoning meat. Left it overnight in the fridge in a browning bag. The next day my SO puts it in the oven while I am at work. I get home to finish it off and whip up a salad. He makes yellow rice and biscuits. We were SOOOOOO full! I wanted to watch a romantic movie so I suggested we watch a “Classic” but he wasn’t into it so we ended up watching SVU (not romantic AT ALL, but we love that show).
Later that night we are cuddling and he is playing with my ring finger, and who new my ring finger could be an erogenous zone because all of a sudden I am AWARE and present in the moment. He playfully mentions that I can’t get none *wink,wink,nudge,nudge* until I make a “Down Payment”, which is my incognito way of saying “put a ring on it.” I tell him I will get him whatever kind of ring he wants. Then I ask him what kind of watch he would want as an engagement present from me. He says he has never heard of that tradition and that it must be something made up from the internet (his incognito way of mentioning The Bee). I shrug it off and say “Fine, you aren’t getting ANYTHING, then”, meaning the watch or my bodaciously-fine self. He ends up proving me wrong and we have a very pleasant night.
This morning he leaves me a voicemail telling me how much he loves me and will be working like a dog today so he might not be around his phone, but he wants to let me know how much he loves me. It absolutely made my morning.
Just after lunch he told me someone called out on him and now he has to work a 16 hour day. So what does a good waiting bee do? I went to the health store during lunch and get him some men’s wellness pills so he can keep his strength up….and maybe I will get him some booze for when he gets home.
I love him. He’s awesome. That’s my Hunnie. I am his Hunnie-Bee. He is my Hunnie-Bear…our cat is the Hunnie-Badger

I’m so out of touch. What is engagement chicken? I never made engagement anything, never heard of it.

….I never actually cooked for Mr. 99 until AFTER we were married, maybe if I had, he would have proposed in 5 months instead of 9!

i did engagement back rubs. Fiance told me each backrub got me closer to the engagement, and it worked! lol he proposed a few months before I thought he was going to.

- Wedding: June 2013 - Country Club
I never did any of the ‘engagement’ anythings. I cooked for him, because we live together and if I want to eat I need to cook haha. So… uh, no, we never did anything like that. Fiance always acted like he never wanted to get married and then randomly proposed while we were walking around where we first kissed. (: We had been dating for over 2 and a half years, though, so I guess it was about time. (;

This is a cute idea! Already engaged, but I think that a pre-wedding surprise might be really nice for my sweet Fiance. He’s been super stressed lately with work and a great reminder of how much I love him, getting him excited for the wedding and having a night all about him would be really sweet I think! 🙂

Lol I didn’t even know that “engagement chicken” existed but my mother taught me that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and I cook a LOT for my fiancee. I love cooking, it is a way for me to relax. I looking back I guess you could say I made engagment boeuf bourguignon, curry, chicken alfredo… and many others

Haha, I posted about this a couple weeks ago and made it last Sunday (from Ina Garten’s recipe). SO is a big eater and loves spicy so usually we cook meals with a lot more kick. His comments on the chicken: “I was skeptical about a plain chicken but this is one of my favorite things you’ve made me” and the real ringer: “Don’t tell her I said this, but this is even better than my Mom’s roasted chicken.”
He already has the ring and I know it’s coming this year, so I can’t speak for it’s magical properties… but he adores his mother’s cooking so I feel like it was a winning recipe!

@Sapphire-Dreamer: I absolutely love this post 🙂
By The Way, tried it a few months ago. Didnt work, but SO raved about how good it was for weeks

My FH would not like engagement chicken, he doesn’t like roast chicken at all! I always want to try it for myself but I usually settle for a Costco rotisserie chicken instead :-/

@Sapphire-Dreamer: I just looked up how to make this and I’ll be cranking this baby out over the weekend. Looks fabulous!
