@alishaloo:  ‘Jumping the broom’ is a pretty common tradition in some areas, it started as a European tradition but was also done by slaves who did not have the right to marry, which turned it into an African-American tradition as well. Signified ‘sweeping away’ the past and starting your new lives together.
