I know what you mean. It’s because she’s not a complete stick figure. I happen to love her, and love that she’s a real woman who goes through period of time where her weight fluctuates, even though at her heaviest, she’s still a skinny woman!

I mean I know the jeans that they’re talking about when they typically refer to her like that – and they weren’t the most flattering, but fat?  No way!  I mean yeah she’s a little larger than she was when she did duke’s of hazzard – but I wanted to give her a burger when I saw her in that movie, she just looked so hungry 😛  The media is redonk anyways on body images!

-side note about her: her shoe line rocks!

I think a lot of this stems from the fact that Jessica Simpson is primarily known for having had the “perfect” figure. She embraced this perception and in the end…became a victim of it. Is she fat…nope. Is she noticeably larger than she used to be…yep. I personally don’t see anything wrong with her figure…although her clothing choices are questionable. Eventually the media will find somebody else to harp on.

I think any celebrity that puts themselves out there as a sex symbol, poses in scantily clad phots in Maxim etc, sets herself up for that kind of scrutiny. As bad as it sounds, her body and sex appeal are part of the product she’s selling. It’s only natural that it’ll be talked about when she gains a few pounds and doesn’t measure up to the image she built.

Jessica Simpson may not be curvy compared to the general population, but she sure is compared to the Jessica Simpson of the Dukes of Hazzard days.  It’s pretty obvious that she has gained weight, and the media is notorious for picking on people for that.

I just wanted to second that her shoe line is great, a shoe guy at Nordstroms told my mom and me that they are made by the same place that makes BCBG’s shoes. I have had some of the best heels and flats from her line.

It’s super annoying! Especially when you look at her legs and they are TINY!!! I think she looks great no matter what size she is.

@JamaicaBride: & @meliss: I couldn’t agree more. I don’t think Jessica Simpson is fat in the least, but when you put yourself out there as the sex symbol you were trying to be back in the Dukes of Hazzard days and flaunted your itty bitty body, you have to expect that the media is going to scrutinize you when you gain weight. You wanted the attention when you were super skinny, so it’s not fair to cry that you’re getting too much attention when you put on some weight. You can’t have it one way or the other…

I agree with why she gets too much scrutiny, but I also feel bad for her – I think she was totally miserable during DoH days, not eating/spending 4 hours/day doing squats and lunges in the gym, and I think came out of that feeling like the whole thing was ridiculous and she didn’t want to do that anymore. I also watched her show about international beauty (Whatever it was called) and find it a bit annoying that now her ‘platform’ is accepting our bodies however they are… like yes, you gained weight, you get made fun of, it sucks, but stop harping about it! 🙂

Well, she IS curvy.  I don’t think she’s fat, but she’s short so any weight gain is obvioul,  and she’s obviously gained a significant weight over the last few years.  Being a public figure means you’re open for scrutiny in these sort of sitiations.

And she needs to dress her body better.

She isn’t fat at all, but I also don’t think her short height helps in what she appears to look like in pictures.  I love her!  I met her in April..she was the NICEST person ever and sooo cute!  Here’s a pic!
