just because a relationship with her doesn’t come as easy as your relationship with SO doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth working for.

My father told me this about my Future Sister-In-Law but it could go for a difficult Mother-In-Law too

“Until She pays the bills and lives in your house, she has no say so”

It’s not you, it’s her! Just do your best to be nice and work on the relationship. Put the ball in her court. If that doesn’t work, just distance yourself.

And make sure your FH stands up for you.

@eloping:

That is the best Mother-In-Law advice I’ve heard so far! I find humour is the only way I can deal with all the Mother-In-Law drama. Thank you 🙂

Sit back, shut up, and let her dig her own grave.

Said by my mom, when dealing with hubs mom. And she was right – no one in the family speaks to her anymore. And now I have an awesome Mother-In-Law (FIL’s FI) who I adore 🙂

Be considerate, dont talk behind her back to others in her family or circle, and always offer to help with dishes.

@80sbee:  i know exactly how u feel i cannot stand my fmil she drives me nuts and she causes so many problems but everytime i see her which isnt as often as i should probably i am just nice to her because i believe in treating people the way i would like to be treated.. if she can’t reciprocate that then at the end of the day u know it’s just their problem and that ur a much better person
