I’d use some nice, flowy curtains, or something like this:

My brother made us this for cheap. You can make a slimmer version with some 2x4s and some semi sheer fabric. He used a staple gun and nail gun to put it together the morning of the wedding, and tore it down at the end of the night. I think it cost maybe 150 for the wood and fabric, and we just threw it all away after!

@BookGirrl:  Wow..That’s gorgeous. We’re getting married outdoors, kind of in front of a big tree. I keep thinking it’s screaming for something “official”…I figured we could fancy up some plaster(ish) coloumn style flower stands and keep it simple but after seeing your …?what do you call that thing?…I want one!

Any further instructions?

@FewChaMrsBrown:  NO further instructions, sadly.  My brother works in theater (like stage theater) and although he’s now a director, he paid his dues for a long time in set design and as a stage manager, so I trusted him to get the materials and make it for me.  I just specified the size after measuring our venue and I gave him some inspiration pictures, but asked for all in ivory.  The background garlands were paper flowers I bought on Etsy.  I was totally over DIY at that point, so didn’t want to attempt to make one.  Basically, he built us a chuppah, even though we aren’t jewish–it was exactly what we wanted!

My inspiration pictures:

@jessyrez:  Not that I’ve seen, but it really looks as simple as drying some roses (or using silk, at the sort of distance you’re talking about, only the bridal party will be able to tell they’re fake), cutting the stems about an inch down, tying a ribbon to the stem, and then tying the other end of the ribbon to the mobile thing. In your case, though, since it will be up against a wall, I’d suggest a wood frame (you could attach the ribbon with a staple gun, then cover the wood with curtains like the ones on the chuppah in the pic after the one I posted.

@jessyrez:  If you like the hanging roses idea, but are open to something other then the mobile shape, you could use a curtain tension rod across the back wall between the two beams, and hang the roses at varying heights from that rod.

There are lots of great ideas on Pinterest

I love this backdrop. I’d like to do something similar for my ceremony space.
