@Mrs.Maeby:  you sound just like me!!! Never drank coffee, or smoked or drank…. But I do love coke slurpees. Coke itself not so much …. But I really would love to have one. I’ve read you can have 200mg of caffine a day, so I think you’re probably good with the occasional pop a few times a week. (I mean… There are way worse things for baby, say fast food every day!) I’m not 100% sure though since I am only a few weeks pregnant. 🙂

I started to give up soda in the beginning, and my OB told me I didn’t have too. But obviously don’t have a soda with every meal every day. Coke helps my migraines, and the dr was all for keeping those underscontrol. Currently 31 weeks and everything is ok 🙂

Just stop buying it.  It can cause a lot of swelling issues as your pregnancy continues.  My mom swilled coke when she was pregnant with me and her ankles in pictures were ginormous.  She admitted the swelling was from not drinking enough fluids but she was addicted to her soda and couldn’t stop.

You don’t need to give it up. Caffeine and sugar in moderation are not going to hurt you or the baby. I think it’s like 2-300 MG a day that is generally acceptable by most doctors

Don’t feel guilty.

I was never a big soda drinker but I actually started drinking it occasionally during my pregnancy because I can’t drink beer and I need some kind of vice! I just choose caffeine free versions most of the time. I’ve actually had a pretty unhealthy pregnancy diet, I won’t lie. I eat chocolate every day and I give in to pretty much any craving I have. I just try to balance it with fruits and veggies and protein.

@Mrs.Maeby:  4 a week?! Hun, don’t beat yourself up about that!!! You could be doing much MUCH worse things.

@Mrs.Maeby:  I found that it was easier to go buy the little cans or bottles of coke and keep them on hand. Then I wasn’t tempted to open a full size soda, and they usually did the trick. Or else I would usually take a sip of hubby’s soda except he’s a Pepsi drinker so it wasn’t the same. You’ll be fine if you have a soda once in awhile! 🙂

@Hyperventilate:  Yep, completely true. I had major guilt about it at first – instead of quitting pop, I stopped feeling guilty about it! A can of coke has 34 milligrams of caffeine in it, and any doctor will tell you that 200-300 milligrams is safe. And as far as the empty calories go, you being happy and having lower stress levels has a way bigger influence on the baby than some empty calories will as long you’re still taking your vitamins and such. And I know I’d be pretty freaking miserable if I guilt tripped myself every time I ate or drank empty calories!

Keeping yourself comfortable and not stressed will far outweigh the empty calories. Lets be honest with ourselves, we all get a little anxiety and stress over desperately wanting/craving something but forbidding ourselves from it. Remember that last time you went “No… No I can’t!” but your mind kept wandering back to that forbidden cake, can of soda or iced coffee?

My Dr. Pepper has 150 calories in it. For a can of soda, that’s a fair amount but at the end of the day, it’s not really earthshattering. You can walk that off! A 10 minute, easy going walk will burn off 36 calories. A 30-35 minute walk could easily burn off a can of soda. Plus you get lovely vitamin D from the sun and a bit of fresh air! Take the dogs for a walk, go out with other children, or your SO/family, whoever.

I used to limit myself to one diet Pepsi per day. My mouth would after at the thought of it! I am just past 10 weeks and really have totally gone off soda. I haven’t had one in a few weeks. But then water is a bit gross for me too, unless it’s ice-cold. Loving chocolate milk and peach juice right now.

@Mrs.Maeby:  If it makes me feel better and it’s not doing any major damage to baby, I have it! I live on sandwiches and toast at the moment – bread is not good for you! But it holds back the spewy feeling so I have it anyway and just walk it off.
