I am the youngest of 4, last to get married. My sister is getting married this Dec and got engaged 3 months before me. Almost no one in my family was excited for me when I got engaged (the happiest moment in my life) over New Year’s on the ice rink in Rockefeller Center! I have never felt this way about someone before in my life and never thought it would happen to me.. My extended family (siblings included) just view it as another mandatory family event, no one looked at my ring or called to congradulate!! I have wonderful bridesmaids who are so sweet, but two of them (MOH’s) are my sisters and engaged/married, barely paying attention and the other three are single and don’t understand. No one is excited!! This website looks like a happy place where girls encourage each other!! I need friends!!

Congratulations!!!!!! I’m sighing about your proposal! How super romantic – WOW! (Someday I will skate at the Rockefeller….fingers crossed).
Welcome to the Hive! I’m sorry that your family are seeming unexcited for you & your Fiance….BUT….you’ve come to the right place.
We are excited for you, so buzz around, check out the boards & fabulous blogs, and post any questions, comments, or thoughts you have. We’re all here because we love it, it’s a super supportive, fun, and fabulous place.

The most important thing is that you are happy because of the wedding! I can relate a little bit… at the engagement every body was happy for us, but every time I bring up a bit of wedding talk it seems to be the most boring subject for every one else, and that includes my fianceé, he is just not into weddings, he would get married in our kitchen if necesary.
Wedding bee is my wedding topic oasis where I just indulge on the things I can´t wait to read/talk/hear about all day long.

Ditto the previous poster! Y0u’ll find lots of brides who feel their engagements/weddings are overshadowed by their siblings, other family members having babies, etc, and unfortunately it’s too common. HOWEVER, I have this insanely romantic image of you and your Fiance on the Rockefeller rinK! Absolutely amazing. Post away and we’ll swoon for you =]
It sucks when your family/friends are too wrapped up in themselves to remember what it was like to be in your shoes!!!!!!!!! Congrats & Welcome =]

Welcome to the hive!! We’re all your friends here…
I’m sorry that a lot of your family isn’t nearly as excited as you are, but what is important is that you found a great man you want to spend the rest of your life with. Please don’t let anything take away from that 🙂
Keep smiling & you’ll soon find that you have a lot of support here! There’s always someone else here who has been through the same emotions/issues/crisis, etc!! There’s no place better.

Oh my goodness, you ladies are so sweet and encouraging I’m a little teared up reading your responses! 🙂 I unfortunately don’t have any pics of the proposal, but it was so beautiful – it had been snowing all day while we were skating and stopped just before they cleared the ring for my FH to bring me out to the center and pop the question! The crowd exploded in applause and after a victory lap (I said yes!) they whisked us away for champaigne. You are all right that the most important thing is I’ve found someone I love so much, but it does feel good to vent! Thank you all!! And congrats to everyone else!!

Welcome! Sounds like a beautiful proposal!
It’s too bad you don’t feel like you’re getting any support from your family – maybe right now since your sister’s wedding is coming up next they’re more focused on that, and it really just isn’t on their radar yet. I hope they come around! If they don’t, you’ll find plenty of people on here that can relate 🙂
