hollysmith92:  I had my boyfriend at the time wear all black to prom. It looked AMAZING.

But for the wedding day (thanks to Pinterest) I’m now a fan of having the groom wearing a black tux with white vest and white tie. I think having him in white looks like he’s sort of matching the bride and that way he stands out from the groomsmen. Groosmen would then wear the same colored vest as BMs. Or you could always flip it and have your groom in all black and groosmen with white vests and white ties.

Just some food for thought!

I used to really love that look too, but then I had a couple friends go to seminary school, and now it just looks like a priest/minister to me.   :/  It might work if you had a dress that had black in it, but otherwise I feel like it would clash with a traditional bridal dress too much.

As for colored vest- to me that screams prom.  I would probably keep the vests black, but do a colored tie to match the Bridesmaid or Best Man.  That is much classier.

If you are one of those brides that can pull off a black or a black and white/ivory gown, I think the all black groom might look totally rad.  Otherwise, I might just change the shirt to white, and do a classic tux looks for my man.

You could put your groom in a classic tux and give the groomsmen the all black look.  That would look really classy, and the pictures of just you two of you (which honestly are the pictures that matter most) wouldn’t look so black and white polor opposites.  Give the groomsmen a colored bout to match the bridesmaids instead.  That would be a unique look without being totally out there or losing class.  I think that would look awesome.  It would be totally classic and timeless without being generic.

hollysmith92:  our groomsmen wore all black for our wedding. My husband wore the more traditional tux (black jacket and pants, black bow tie, white shirt, white vest). Have you considered that? I just think that having the groomsmen vests matching the bridesmaids looks too much like prom.

Note: the guys with the red ties were our ushers, that’s why they don’t completely match

My fiance will be wearing a black tux with black vest but a white shirt with a black tie. The groomsmen will be wearing a black tux with a colored vest and tie (the same color as the bridesmaids dresses).

hollysmith92:  The other thing I saw once this summer was a groom in a black tux with a black shirt and a white tie and vest and he looked nice too!

hollysmith92:  I say go for it! They can think however they want but when you have all the big stuff figured out and you are relatively stress free 6 months out from your wedding because you got stuff done early, you won’t care what you were worried about people thinking! Have fun!

hollysmith92:  Oh, the other thing is Men’s Wearhouse has a tux builder program so you could put stuff together and get an idea that way!
