What about lining the sides with lots of mason jars with candles in them?

or hanging lanterns from the ceiling?

Love the idea about the candles by Ms. Blue.

What about getting some plants in simple containers (or mismatched fancier ones) and creating a little entryway? If you put them along those “ledge” type things on either side of the walkway, maybe even down the walkway a bit (toward the camera in this shot) to create an entry space.

etsy.com has these lights

hanging those lanterns give a real rustic charm with elegance

hay bails give great rustic charm also and you can use large ones for seating…

you can fill the milk pales with flowers or peanuts

and lighting will set the mood for an outdoor wedding

What about making decorative balls (similar to the wicker ones) out of string? You could add little touches to them to make them more rustic and less generic looking. They look like this:

twine yarn ball lanterns

Taken from here with instructions: http://ruffledblog.com/diy-string-wedding-chandelier/

ETA: I’m not sure how clear the glue dries since the string is coated with it, but you could always try a more cream colored yarn for a rustic feel.

It’s so dramatic, I don’t think I would hang anything, actually. I would put flower boxes on the railings and have trailing ivy and flowers in them.
