I’m stumped at what to get for my dad and my nephew for Christmas.
My nephew is about to turn 13. He’s really into video games and plays hockey. Other then that, I don’t know much about him or his life (I live in a different country and have for the past four years, so I really haven’t seen him grow up). What’s an easy gift idea for him? I don’t want to spend more then $30-$50
And then my dad. I honestly am completly stumped. I’ve tried googling, but all the ‘dad’ gifts just aren’t right for him. He doesn’t drink at all, he doesn’t wear a tie to work, he’s the type of person who when he wants something, he goes and buys it for himself. He has a watch collection, but only likes really expensive watches, nothing I can afford right now. His sports teams are the Boston Bruins, the Dallas Cowboys and Liverpool United, but I seem to buy him sports related things every year. He reads a lot, and is really into music, but I don’t know what books are out, if anything, that he doesn’t have. Like I said, when he wants something, he goes and buys it for himself!
Any ideas for either of them? I honestly don’t know what to get them!

GIFT CARDS! Especially for the nephew – he’s at the age where he’s just old enough to start to go shopping or to the movies without his parents.
For dad, what about a bottle of fancy liquor?

@red_pepper_gal: Gift cards seem so lame though. I know he’ll use them, but it just seems like coping out haha.
My dad doesn’t drink =/ He’s a recovering alcoholic, so that’s out of the question. He’s SO hard to buy for.

@cirk: I would ask the mom what your nephew wants. Kids are usually pretty clear about what they want. I was going to suggest hockey video game then realized he probably already has them all.
How does your dad like to listen to music? Does he have all of the cool gadgets related to listening like super awesome noise cancelling earphones? Does your dad have any other hobbies that you may not initially think are gift-able? If he likes to grill, you can get these meat brander things with his initials or with a sports team logo or whatever. Is he open to adventure type gifts? Living Social has vouchers for things like group kayaking, hot air balloon rides, etc a lot.
Getting warmer at all?
