Hi again !
okay i think my venue search (which has been going on NON STOP since April) is getting out of control. i ALWAYS wanted to get married on a beach or overlooking a beatuiful body of water. well the problem is, my fiance wants to get married here, in Philly since we have so many out of town guests that he wants to show ‘where were from’. obviously it is impossible to have both of these things, i will take any suggestion possible! my fiance is so sweet and is willing to do anything i want but i completly understand where he is coming from and to be honest why should i care if the ocean is right there when the man of dreams will be right beside me?
i cannot wait to hear what amazing suggestions you have!
my main things i NEED:
-outdoor wedding space
-outdoor cocktail hour
-indoor or tented reception
-less than an hour and a half to philly
things i WANT (def dont need these):
-overlooking something beautiful (water, rolling hills, city skyline, etc.)
-a lot of space
-catering preferred (cheaper)
-something to do for our guests during cocktail hour
we have looked at 13 places and i have spoken to 96 but what is frusterating is i think there is something else out there that have missed.
looking forward to hearing back from you wonderful bees!

- Wedding: October 2013 - The Down Town Club, Philadelphia
Have you looked at WaterWorks Restaurant? They are in Philly, are on the water, and it’s gorgeous.

Waterworks is definitely going to be over the $20K budget. Have you looked at places down the shore? The Atlantic City/Ventnor/Margate/Longport/Cape May area is only about an hour from Philly (depending on traffic, obviously). Also, did you check out Bartram Gardens, Morris Arboretum, and Tyler Arboretum?

@sweetpea1813: i would LOVE a beach wedding but when i looked, the prices were really high for the amount included in the packages, do you have any suggestions??
i have looked at Morris- my fiance hated it haha i didnt mind it but it was a lot of walking for our grandparents and there wasnt pretty views during the recpetion… i love the look of Bartrams through the pictures i have seen. i will check out Tyler now!! thanks so much for the suggestion and i hope to hear back from you about NJ venues!

I don’t know a whole lot about NJ venues…I’ve just seen photos from a few weddings, but I have no idea about cost and stuff, so I’m sorry!

@abarnes: I am getting married at The Manor House at Prophecy Creek Park, in Ambler, PA. I believe, depending on your guest list and meal selections, you can definitely make it work, budget-wise. It is GORGEOUS. The ceremony site is right next to two ponds, and its amazing. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the place for us. It’s about 20-30 mins outside of Philly. You have to use the caterer, but they’re fabulous (Robert Fair Catering, look them up!). Check it out! I made a link to their website below.. Good luck!

Have you looked into Bartrams Garden? It’s my favorite venue 🙂

@abarnes: If you look at restaurants, as @Reeniero: suggested, make sure you factor in everything that’s included. You need virtually no equipment rentals (maybe table linens, and that’s it) at a restaurant. They have tables, chairs, plates, glasses, forks, knives, even spoons – yes spoons too! 😛
And, at most places, there isn’t a rental fee, just a minimum spend, so whatever you’re paying them will include your catering. The minimum spend is based on what they’d make if they opened up that night, instead of closing down for your event. So, you can get a lower minimum spend by changing the time, and day of the week. If you were willing to do 1:30 pm on a weekday, for example, it might become quite affordable.

@starz88962: i LOVE this venue, i constantly keep going back to it- i thought it was too pricey so i kind of skipped over it but i do love it so you just inspired me to make an appointment and maybe we can work something out with prices.
thank you so much and congratulations on your wedding!!

We went to a beautiful outdoor wedding at the Warrington Country Club last summer and we are now looking into it ourselves. It scene is beautiful, overlooking many many acres and the facility itself is really gorgeous. Not to mention the food was delicious! I think for your price range, it may be a good choice to look into! Good luck! I know it can get very frustrating. http://www.warringtoncountryclub.com/

We’re getting married at Brigalias in NJ which is amazing and has outdoor space in the back to get married but maybe not exactly what you are looking for. Can’t say enough good things about them though!
Have you looked at Aldie Mansion? I was just there for a wedding in April and the grounds are incredibly beautiful. The couple got married outside, had cokctail hour on the patio and semi-outside/inside adn then we had dinner in their big room which is all windows overlooking scenery. I think you have to go with their caterers but I can’t say enough about the food-it was amazing!
