@allinoelle:

I’m not from the states so I can’t contribute much monetary wise, I’d say one thing which is important when making your decision is how creative you are/how much you can actually be bothered organising all that other stuff!

Sure you may be able to have a cheaper wedding by organising all of the contracters etc yourself, rather than someone else doing it, but if you’re not super organised or can’t commit the time to doing it I’d advise you to stay away!

I’m in a similar sort of situation, we’re having our ceremony on a plot of land so have to organise a marquee (so people don’t get wet!), chairs, toilets etc etc; while our reception will be at an actual venue.  At first organising sooo much for the ceremony seemed a bit daunting, but we’re having a long engagement so lots of time to plan, and I’m super-monica-geller organised so I’m sure it’ll be absolutely fine!

Whatever you choose, I’m sure it’ll look beautiful and you’ll have a wonderful day! ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually think that $5,500 for everything minus food is a really great price. I guess it depends on what your total budget is.

@allinoelle:  I think that is a fantastic price given that all of those venue items are included, along with set-up and tear-down services for your ceremony and reception; servers and bartenders; music; lighting; and photography.

I am also having a barn wedding, and am just renting the barn for $1000. Everything else is on us, but it is turning out to be very affordable because I have more control. My guest list is about 80, and estimated, here are cost breakdowns.

Table and chair rentals: $150

linens $150

wine, beer, soda, and water: $400

catering $1000

cupcakes $120

centerpieces and other decorations $600

two photographers (albums and disc included) $1200

DJ $450

total $5000 (or right around there)

so really, I think it depends on your overall budget and how much say you want in everything. I’m a control freak, and won’t be happy unless I organize every single detail myself ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s a good price.  The bathroom rentals ALONE will tack a huge chunk out of the $5.5K vs the $1K.

Including linens and things also helps a lot as those tend to run up the bill too.

Sounds great to me

where in Canada are you?  Where is this barn?

@allinoelle:  is South Pond the barn that does everything? I am looking there too…it really is gorgeous. I feel like it’s a good option if you can swing it moneywise, because you don’t have to worry about very much yourself. Unless you are a do it yourselfer, and you probably could do somethings for a bit less $$ – hire a less expensive caterer, or decorate yourself.

Where is the other barn you are looking at? Nearby as well?
