I’m eloping and the date is a secret (mostly, and especially from family). I ordered my dress online and LOVE it. It however, did not fit perfectly (and I knew it wouldn’t). So I asked my Future Mother-In-Law if she knew any good tailors in town to get my dress fitted perfect. She knew a very professional seamstress who has been doing it for over 17 years and has even worked in fashion. I completely trust her with the dress. But there are two problems that I’ve been stressing over a bit.
1) Because we’re not telling anyone the date, I am worried she won’t have the dress done in time. I also don’t feel like I can tell her the date in secret, lest she tells my Future Mother-In-Law. (They are friends.) What do I do? (And yes, it is very important to us that no one knows the date.)
2) Once she got the dress to actually FIT, I didn’t like it as much. It’s a short dress, and she seems to have made it longer. Long enough to cut my legs off at a place where I now look boxy. I told her to shorten it, so I am hoping it gets back to the length I want it at. Also, it was too small before (which is the reason she is altering it) and now it just seems too big. It makes me feel much bigger. But it’s not too big. I guess I just want it to fit tighter. I’m worried that if I tell her to keep altering it, then it REALLY won’t be done in time.
Tailoring is not this woman’s job, she does it on the side. And I understand she has a job and she’s been pretty quick with it in general. But I am stressed out about possibly not having the dress in time, without leaking the date to everyone. Advice?
