I hate chunky prongs too. One of the solutions could be to put little stones on the top of the prongs, so it doesn’t look so chunky or use double claws to break up the square look. My original e-ring had a similar set up with the stone exposed and I didn’t like the straight on look either. If I were to re-design mine, I definitely would make the prongs more delicate double claws.

@bunnyharriet: I think the second one you posted fits the style of your custom image more.
If you are still fielding prong opinions here are mine.

I LOVE the prongs you posted in the beginning of this thread. They are substancial like you need yet gorgeous. Go with them!

I have double prongs. I wanted double claw but the jeweler did this instead. I was not pleased at first but now they’ve grown on me. They actually look quite dainty in person. Not sure they’d go with your style tho because it’s a bit too modern looking for your ring choice. Love the yellow gold, btw

@Mrs Christopher: Yeah, I love the prongs in the second pic too. I think they’ll work well. I still want to see more prongs though! I love seeing the small details on rings.
I actually prefer this to the double claw look. Your prongs are very pretty. Actually, the whole ring is gorgeous. I love baguette side stones. That was actually what I was considering before I decided to go with a completely custom made ring.

Have you considered getting the prongs done in white? I have a YG round but my prongs are WG, so they don’t stand out too much.

We had mine custom made and the prongs are the only thing I am not sure of now. I love the tulip prongs (although they wouldn’t work with my halo) and feel like the prongs on my ring are almost too dainty. They are very simple and barely noticeable, which makes sense with the halo, but I am just used to something more substantial. Here are pictures from the top and side…

I have double prongs! My Fiance got it custom made and I think it gives my classic ring, a unique look! =)

I have square overstated prongs.
I love my ring– but I get bothered when people say “it looks like a princess cut”. It somewhat makes me regret the choice, but I like that are different and thicker (adding for more security). I didnt know the prongs were big when i picked it out.

My initial engagement ring was an 8mm cushion cut smoky quartz in white gold. The four little prongs were no good, and the center-stone came loose continuously. It’s part of the reason I changed rings (that and the quartz was getting scratched)
And this is a model I just wanted to show you for fun. It’s a multi-prong setting that surely keeps the stone secure! So many prongs It’s from moissaniteco:
My engagement ring also has lots of prongs holding the center stone: 10 prongs. I have lost one of the medium sized stones though…
