 For gifts in this price range, I tend to think of those little “splurges” that he may want, but rarely buys because it is an unnecessary expense.

For my guy, I’ve considered buying some magazines (or doing a subscription to one) for him. It would make a great little gift since it is something we don’t normally purchase, but I know he likes to read if he gets the chance. Also, edible items work really well (my Fiance loves a very particular brand of root beer that costs like $8 for a 4-pack, so that’s always a nice surprise for him.)

  • board games for the two of you to play,
  • books
  • one of those crossword-a-day or joke-a-day type calendars
  • movie tickets

An IOU booklet is free. Give him tickets for whatever you think he might like. IOU one chore swap, IOU one argument ceasefire, IOU one night of control of the tv, etc.

It really depends on what he is into.

My husband and I are pretty big kitchen people. For his stocking, I completed our kitchen utensil set with the one $20 item we are lacking. I also got him a measuring cup ($10). We also work midnight shifts every now and then and like things to read, so I got him a few magazine subscriptions ($5).
