I’ve had my rings sized down, and they never gave me any gold back, so I don’t think they’re supposed to.

I would ask about it being thinner and if they can fix the stamp.

@sheepandbear:  I haven’t gotten my ring resized YET, but I feel like if your uncomfortable with the work they did then you should talk to them about it and at least have them explain all your concerns.

@sheepandbear:  I agree with you that it does. I can’t tell if it’s the picture or not though. But I don’t see what the harm is and calling them and discussing it with them! Yes your wedding is getting really close! Good luck and don’t worry about it! Either way it will get taken care of! Update and let us know how it went!

@sheepandbear:  That band definitely looks thinner. Did you take it to the same jeweler your Fiance bought the setting from? I wouldn’t be happy with it either. I know I had an issue with prongs with my first engagement ring setting from Jared’s. We had bought a diamond from them and realized that the diamond was terrible, you could see visible black spots on the diamond so we got a diamond from Blue Nile and they reset the diamond into the setting. When we got the ring back, the prongs were uneven and you could tell that they had worn them down a bit and the diamond was too low in the setting. And they were trying to give us back the ring with the screwed up prongs and they claimed to have put in a new head (with the prongs) when it was obvious they didn’t. We ended up returning the setting to Jared’s and going with an independent jeweler in the area. I think it would be worth investigating and seeing if they can fix it.

I had my ring sized down from a 6 to a 5 and didn’t get any gold back. It lodes look like your ring is thinner in those pictures.

I would definitely get the 14k stamp put back on. It’s really important that the metal is stamped correctly.

See this is why I love this board… I had no idea you could get back the gold taken from sizing down a ring..   Live n learn something everyday …

On the flip to this , OP do have them fix your band and place 14k symbol back.. Unless you asked to have a thinner band , there should not be any structural change made to ur ring… Best of luck

Is that an A. Jaffe stamp?

How long did it take them to size the ring? If they did it in-house, they should fix it- the band shouldnt get smaller for sizing down (only up.)  If they sent it out, the manufacterer will fix it but you might be without it for a week or so.

@sheepandbear:  I have had many rings sized and I have never gotten any gold back.

Several of my rings came back thinner when being sized UP, but it shouldn’t be thinner when being sized down. However, in my personal opinion the difference in your ring is negligible and I wouldn’t worry about it.

Here’s what I’ve learned: when I get my rings sized at zales/peoples they always come back much thinner. I don’t appreciate that because it wears down the ring and makes it more fragile. Their ,method takes out gold and stretches the band is what they explained. After sizing twice, I have a RHR that is so thin I’m afraid to wear it. A solution they proposed is to have a half shank soldered after cutting the thin part out. A common maintenance for wedding rings.

Now I just purchased a band from a different jeweler who took pride in saying they remove  gold when resizing. They did a better job for sure.
