@johannaw:  Congratulations on your engagement! I read your story and it sounds like you put a lot of thought into making the proposal special.

I proposed to my husband on Christmas Eve 2017. We’d talked about marriage a lot and agreed it was what we’d want pretty soon. We renovated a house together in the summer of 2017 and had agreed that we should live together for half a year before a proposal happened. I had actually bought a ring for him in July 2017 already and I just couldn’t wait anymore.

I didn’t go down on one knee as you did but he very definitely said yes and was very happy. He told me afterwards that he’d been wrecking his brain about how to propose to me but hadn’t had an idea that seemed good enough to him, so I’m glad I proposed – who knows how long it would have taken him!

He liked his ring very much and was SO PROUD to show it off to his family 2 days later. We went to a local shop a few months later and picked a ring for me.

I don’t regret proposing but I have to admit it would have been interesting to see what his proposal would have looked like.

Congratulations to you and your fiance! I hope you’ll have a lovely wedding and a wonderful life!

Congrats to you!!  And all the best in wedding planning going forward!  I proposed to my husband 11 years ago.  I pulled a Kate Hudson from the movie Bride Wars and just came right out and asked him and he smiled and said, “…well, since you can’t wait…” and pulled out the ring for me.  I basically beat him to the punch. LOL.  He said he always wanted to marry me, but didn’t have a proposal ready and had just gotten the ring, so he was glad I did it.  I’m not big into surprises anyways and never expected the huge proposal from the guy and I really don’t care who does it as long as someone does.  We had a wonderful engagement and celebrated ten years of marriage this year.  Good luck with everything!  πŸ™‚

@johannaw:  Thank you!  People love our story when we tell it.  Everyone has told us that it’s fabulous that I proposed.  I know it’s not for everyone, but that’s just how it worked out for us.  We have no regrets.  And I can’t even believe he had a ring for me, so that was the icing on the cake.

I got no grief from my family and friends either. As a matter of fact, my husband’s brother also was proposed to. It seems to run in the family πŸ˜‰

I proposed to a man, but I am also a man.

Kinda funny though, I struggled with getting his ring size, too. That was the whole reason I made this account.

My fiancé wanted his own proposal.  So I proposed to him at home over spaghetti on St. Patrick’s say.  It was spontaneous and nerve wracking even though I knew he’d be happy!  I had a couple plans that fell through and then that night I was just full of love so I went for it.  It was magical!

I proposed, and he proposed back. I felt it was right to propose first because he was the one who was ready for marriage first. It was a while ago, but I posted about it on weddingbee. πŸ™‚
