I ruined my old laptop by spilling water all over it, and I actually also ruined my first iphone that way too. It taught me not to have any liquids near the computer, now the computer is actually on its own separate table and I have drinks on the desk that only holds our monitor and keyboard. So yeah, I’m totally with you!

I left an iPod in a pair of jeans which went through the wash. Sadly the iPod couldn’t be fixed and I did try the rice trick but it didn’t work. At the time my iPod was 3 or 4 years old and I had been planning to buy a newer generation so I didn’t feel too stupid about what happend. Now I check pockets before puting pants and jackets int he washer.

@SoontobeMrsA: You lucky bee-otch.  I am going to throw DH’s iPhone 4 in the snow and see if he’ll buy me something.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m so sorry that happened! i’ve done MANY things that have resulted in ruining FI’s stuff.

Case #1: Spilled alfredo pasta all over his car on our first date.

Case #2: Got really, REALLY drunk on HIS college graduation dinner and threw up in HIS car (everywhere, I might add). It cost him 250 dollars to get it detailed.

Definitely try the “drying and cleaning” thing. My aunt dropped her iPhone in a cup of hot coffee. A few weeks later she dropped it in the foot tub at the spa. Both times she took it apart, towel tried it, and sat it out in the sun. Works like a charm! My sister dropped her iPhone into the toilet (i don’t even want to know how), the cleaning and drying thing worked for her too. I assume all Apple products are built pretty similarly, so you might try that.

ETA: just read about your new Macbook….CONGRATS! He is awesome for sure.

Fiance went to New York a few years ago- and forgot his camera! So when an opportunity came up to fly there together for a weekend, we went for it! Revisited many of the places he saw on his first trip because he had to take pictures!

I got startled by a Dinosaur at the Museum of Natural History, and dropped his camera. OMG you should have seen the fury in his eyes! (FI, not the dinosaur. Dino was missing eyes, perhaps that’s why I got startled). Good news though, no damage!!!

So everything worked out okay, and we got back home with all our pics on NY. Yep- until he took an unflattering photo of me in the bedroom, and I accidentally hit “delete all”.

I did not get a new Mac for having done so!

On our honeymoon we were hiking the grand canyon and I took DH’s camera to take some photos and I totally dropped it!  The lens broke, and we couldn’t turn it on.  I immediately started crying, and instead of being mad, I think DH felt bad for me and tried to console me.  He was pretty upset though.  As soon as we got back to a town with an electronics store I bought him a brand new camera, which I think fixed the problem!  I still feel bad about it though, I can’t believe I did that!

Is the $750 because it needs a new keyboard or is something more wrong? If it’s just the keyboard (and seriously, I did this to my own Mac once by accident) then just buy a USB keyboard and the whole shebang will be fine. If it’s more that that I’m no good.

Months and months ago, Mr. Lox had to send the first jewelry he ever bought me to the manufacturer to be fixed because it lost a crystal. The maker is in Israel where the free repairs for life are done. The thing was gone for so long I actually thought I’d never see it again. But last weekend I got it back and we were both so excited! Right up until I dropped it on the kitchen floor and three more crystals fell out. I actually cried while he cursed and picked up the pieces. I think I’ll probably never be able to wear that darn thing again. Gah!
