- Wedding: September 2014
Hi bees! I’ve been a devoted reader of Weddingbee for a while. Now that I’m newly engaged and I’m so excited to share my proposal story.
First a little backstory
When I was 12, I participated in an exchange program through school and stayed with a host family in Paris. One of my fondest memories while there was of the Louvre and this painting called the Consecration of Napoleon. It was literally the most beautiful thing I had ever seen at that time and I was so overwhelmed with emotion. Those feelings have stayed with me even to this day and eventually led me to pursue a degree an art history. I’ll always be forever grateful for that time in my life.
So fast forward to July 2013
My fiance and I had been planning a trip to Washington DC because I’m a history nerd and wanted to see the Lincoln Memorial, Smithsonian, etc. So one evening, we were watching the fireworks at Navy Pier when he said he had some bad news and that we wouldn’t be able to make the trip to DC. I wasn’t that surprised as he travels a lot for work and assumed that something came up. But to my complete and total shock, he continued on and said that we couldn’t go to DC because we were going to Paris instead! I was speechless. I was beside myself! I couldn’t believe the man I love was taking me to Paris!!! I started bawling like a baby, it was embarrassing.
So on day 5 in Paris, we decided to go to the Louvre so that I could show him the painting that I’ve talked about since childhood. I was so giddy and excited that day you have no idea. Anyway as I was taking photographs, I turned around to say something to him. I noticed he has this super lovey dovey look on his face and I asked if he was feeling ok, haha. Then pulls out the ring. It was amazing! At first he didn’t say anything, so I didn’t say anything (ha). Then he finally starts speaking and tells me how much he loves me and wants to take care of me forever and ever and then he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him! It was such a surreal experience. It was beyond my wildest fantasy of how I ever imagine a man would propose to me. It’s crazy how you can say something in passing or not think someone is listening, and then the person you love most does something so meaningful and touchingly heartfelt.
Thanks for listening bees
