As someone who has written to complain about this kind of thing, I truly appreciated a professional note of apology for the unintentional slip up, the assurance that my privacy is valued, and that the person/company has already taken steps to ensure that it won’t be repeated.
If it was a one time mistake and addressed promptly and respectfully I would never hold it against the person/company, though. I wrote more for the purpose of informing people who may not be aware that many people, including me, don’t want their personal info shared. I hope it makes you feel better to know that most reasonable people know that mistakes can and do happen to everyone. It’s how you handle it that will count. And if this is the worst thing that ever happens to you in business you will be quite fortunate!
