I have been wanting to make something for the wedding for quite some time now but it seems like, with 8 months to go, it is a bit too early. And even if it isn’t, I don’t know what I can make this far in advance! I want to get a jump start on DIY projects because in the 8 months we have left we both have full time classes and work so not much time for wedding planning. Ugh…. What can I make so far in advance????

You can make tons of stuff!!! I decorated my bubble containers, did my lace wrapped votive holders, cupcake picks, cupcake wrappers, cake toppers…. Are you thinking about DIY-ing any jewelry or boutonnieres? I also started designing my paper products like my invitations, programs, menus, etc so that when it got to be time I could just sort of fill in the blanks. Do EVERYTHING you can now, you’ll be thankful!!!! That’s the best piece of advice I can give you!

I started DIYing a year ago for our March 2011 wedding. I don’t think it is to early for you to start. I suggest making a list of items you want to DIY and then just pick one to get started on. If you want an example of my list, you can check out my post here. There are things on there that you may or may not want to do and there may be things that you want to do that aren’t on my list, but it will at least give you a starting point.

I agree with the PPs. I’m stoked to knock out a ton of DIY over my winter break from school. Like Noritake said, make a list of things you’d like to do or even just mock-up to check out the time/effort/materials it will take, and get cracking on things like favors and bubbles, etc. that will last. I’m planning to get my save-the-dates organized, I’ve almost wrapped up our wedding website (as much as can be done now), and I’ll probably make my cake stand and some paper favors now. Have a blast! And the more you get done early, the less there is to stress over when it’s crunch time.

I’m 22 months away from my wedding, and I have already made my table numbers, headbands for 3 of my bridesmaids, my in lieu of favor cards, and a few other odds and ends. It’s never to early to start, as far as I’m concerned!
