@Britk:  There is a beautiful quote (I think St. Augustine? or maybe St. Thomas Aquinas?): “Our hearts are restless until they come to rest in God.” Maybe your pastoral associate mentioned it? Anyhow, I hope this is a very rich and fruitful experience for you! Please let us know if we can ever do anything to help you out. It’s the internet, so replies to questions you post will have varying degrees of accuracy and helpfulness, but there are a couple of Bees on here who give really wonderful counsel on Catholicism-related questions.

@Britk:  CONGRATULATIONS!  I’m an RCIA bride too (my Fiance was actually my sponsor, but we hadn’t started dating yet)!  I felt the restlessness too.  I’ll be praying for you on your journey!

@bella128:  Good luck on your journey too!  As @KCKnd2:  mentioned, there are some really great bees on here who give lovely advice, for everything from scripture readings to ceremony etiquette/tradition to NFP.  I’ve only been on here for a week and already learned a lot!  Be sure to pop on to here if you feel like you need support or encouragement, we’d be more than willing to give it!

Congratulations! I went through RCIA, too!  It was funny because I didn’t start the program to prepare for a wedding, but then we decided to get married anyway!  It’s funny how everything in your life leads to just what you need.

Though I wouldn’t pick your Fiance as your sponsor as you’ll miss the opportunity to meet someone else great!  I hate meeting new people but I enjoyed getting a sponsor and then coming home to talk with Fiance (now DH) about what we learned.   (If you’re not baptised, it will also be awkward if he’s your godparent and your spouse?)

And don’t feel bad if you get confused or dont’ totally agree with everything.  I know some Catholics who are pro-choice, some who don’t do NFP (myself included), some who don’t volunteer or support, etc etc.  You find what works for you and do the best you can!

@Britk:  Yeah, we did have a few who were boyfriends/girlfriends in my class though.  It was kind of nice having my now-FI as a sponsor, since he is a cradle catholic and it gave him a chance to re-learn some of the catechism.  But I know that everybody in my class formed really close relationships with the person they had chosen or who had taken them in.  You’ll have a great time and like bookworm88 mentioned, it’ll be nice to talk to your Fiance about what you learned.  I’m not sure if every course is the same, but we didn’t get to the marriage/family part of things until after Christmas, I think, so if you have any questions about that along the way, talk to us!

@bookworm88:  Haha, thankfully I had been previously baptized, I just did first communion and confirmation, or yes, that would have been awkward!  But I met a ton of great people in the class and even though it was three years ago now, several are invited to our wedding!

I went to my RCIA orientation last week and I am a little nervous. i dont know what to expect. I was a little at ease after seeing the size of our class. I am now in search of a Patron Saint and a sponsor. Our journey begins this Friday. 🙂

@Mcda04:  You’re gonna be fine!  I was nervous too, but actually wound up having a lot of fun.  I honestly felt really special and welcomed by my parish, they prayed for us every week at mass!  Keep us posted on what you think about RCIA!
