My family and parents friends are about 75; his family and mom’s friends about 30. Our friends make up the difference. It’s uneven, but he’s an only child of a single mom and I have 16 first cousins just on my dad’s side and I’m the last one to get married. That’s how it is. I feel more badly for his family b/c at least my FH has had a few years to get to know my family, while his family is totally overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of mine.

don’t feel bad – i’m sure that the rest of his family wanted to attend, but just cannot.

on the flip side, my very young and beautiful aunty got married in australia (born and raised there) and her only family resides here, in the states.

only one family (out of 5) was able to come, and even then it was just the elders.

but she didn’t care – she was super happy regardless and so busy.  just don’t let it bog you down and enjoy your day with everyone.

I feel ya, I think we’ll have about 10 people on his side, and 70 on mine 🙁 le sigh.  Since we’re moving to the US first we likely won’t be able to go back and have a hometown reception there for him.  It’s something we’ve had to accept, I think we might do a 5 year anniversary party in the UK though, so more people can attend then – even though I know it isn’t the same.

Oh gosh can I relate to this!  My partner is from New Zealand and his family is HUGE.  It was just more practical for us to get married there for many reaons.  My family is beyond tiny – just grandmother and two aunts and its likely that no family members will attend.  I’ll have some friends coming over but of course, many won’t make it – although those that do plan on coming are very excited about the trip!

Many people have suggested we have a reception here – which actually is nice that they want to celebrate but we live in NYC area and the reception here would probably cost more than the entire wedding in NZ due to the exchange rate (plus everything is just plain cheaper there), so we aren’t planning on doing it.

I fell in love with a man from the other side of the world and I am so lucky we found one and other. Plus, I love New Zealand it’s beautiful.
