I’m ordering my dress from China!
After reading every single post of all 5 (or was it 6?) threads about China dresses, I took the plunge and started emailing the 3 major ones – Jasmine’s, Fabulous U, and Dressilyme as well as an Etsy seller. Tony from Fabulous U was the most responsive (I know Jasmine’s is crazy busy right now), and I loved that they have a Facebook page with pictures and videos of dresses they’ve made.
I thought it would make picking a dress even harder, since now every dress in the world was at my fingertips, but it didn’t. Pronovias and San Patrick had some that I’d been eyeing, but were out of budget. Getting my dress custom made also meant I didn’t have to find THE perfect dress. I just had to find an awesome “base” and modify it to what I want. I’m not making any huge modifications, just a couple of small ones to personalize the style.
Hopefully, assuming it can all be done, this is what I’m going to get:
This (Pronovias Alce) as a “base”:
with the straps either removed entirely or made detachable…
and a stronger sweetheart neckine (with a cleaner line… no fringe-y lace):
and a v-shaped back
(which is also similar to the Mori Lee 1862 that I tried on and you Bees LOVED on me)
Fingers crossed that it can be done! I don’t think the modifications will be a big deal, but, if it is, I’ll just get the Alce without the straps and the lace on the neckline fixed.

I saw that first dress on ebay and was so tempted to pull the trigger, but that was from a random China seller. I think it eill turn out beautifully! Good luck, and please post pictures once it’s done (or mid production, too)!

Gorgeous dress! I like your modifications. That v-back is amazing!

Nice choice! I love Pronovias lace dresses. I haven’t seen a lot of customer dresses from Fabulous U, but from what I have seen, they seem to do good work.
I definitely think it’s good that they use so many photos of their actual gowns, so you know EXACTLY what you’re getting.

Thanks ladies! I definitely will post pics as soon as I have some. Tony said it’ll all be possible. They put a bra-type strap in the back of their dresses in addition to the boning, so it’ll stay up for sure. I was worried it might not.
@HeyKaraoke: I tried on one dress with a v back and I just kept saying, “I love the back” every time she asked me about the dress. I could’ve gone without it, but I love that I can have it.

If anyone is good with Photoshop and wants to try editing the stock pictures to have my modifications, that would be awesome!
