@oneofthesethings:

Blueberry Custard Pie Recipe

1 single pie crust (you can make this or purchase a premade one) 1/4-1/3 c butter 1-1 1/2 c flour pinch of salt 1-2 tsp sugar 1-2 Tbl chilled white vinegar or water(Measurements are approximate since I don’t measure, I make my pie crust with a food processor, don’t over pulse)  Bake @350 for 15-20 mins, until edges are golden brown, remove from the oven and let cool (poke holes or use pie weights for baking)

Pastry Cream 2c milk 1/4 c sugar 1 vanilla bean combine these ingredients in a sauce pan and gently bring to a simmer. 1/3 c sugar 1/4 c corn startch 2 egg yolks 1 egg Whisk these ingredients together until well blended. Gradually had the hot milk to temper the eggs. Place the mixture back on the stove and bring to a boil to thicken, stirring constantly. For a smooth custard, once the mixture has thickened, remove from heat and whisk.

Blueberry Topping 1 pint fresh blueberries 1 c apple juice or water (1/4 c sugar optional, but definitely use if using water) 1/2 Tbl corn syrup Combine ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil to thicken.  Be careful not to break the berries.

Once all of the components are cooled, assemble the pie by pouring the custard in first, smoothing it out, then placing the blueberry topping on top. Let chill for at least 2 hours before serving. I don’t know how long this pie keeps for, since it usually doesn’t make it past day 3 or 4.

Shephard’s pie and guacamole.

For Valentine’s day last year, I made him a heart shaped shephard’s pie topped with bacon roses, and guacamole.

@Cory_loves_this_girl:  So glad you posted this – Darling Husband loves ribs and I have never bought them or made them because I had no idea how to cook them.  And yay for crockpot recipes!

ETA – I’m always trying new things, but I go back to DH’s favorites pretty often – chicken curry and tilapia parmesan come to mind.

@LadyBear:  Ribs always intimidated me, so I never made them. I didn’t even know you could make them in the crockpot until I saw it on Pinterest! It was my first time making them, and they were really easy and yummy 🙂

Every year I make this pineapple upside down cake for DH’s birthday (except last year, I was on my pre-wedding diet and the cake is about 900 calories a slice!). Paula Deen recipe with some shredded coconut for decoration. Sooooooo good!

@Eckle: those tarts look awesome!

I wish I could find something to make that Nerd raves that much about! Pretty much the only thing I make that he super loves is my brownies. But then again, he has a super sweet tooth!

@Eckle:  Aw, that’s so cute — the men are hysterical at being so good at puppy dog eyes and actions over food they love.. I suppose the way to the male heart is chiefly through the belly! LOL

My SO absolutely loves eating, but he’s so thin because he’s a mechanic and burns it all off. That said, EVERYTHING yummy he gobbles up right away. Being in school full time and working also, it’s so hard to cook regularly and I’ve fallen into the terrible habit of allowing us to eat take out quite a bit. Now after reading your post, I feel bad that I haven’t made anything for him lately. Frown Bad Girlfriend sticker for me… But now you’ve kicked me into “redeem yourself with baking” gear. I’m going to pre-heat the oven and throw something nom in there for him when he’s home from work.

@Eckle:  My Spaghetti and homemade meatballs, and my raspberry white chocolate chip scones 🙂

The spaghetti was a definite winner…he even asked if it could be his first dinner when he gets home from deployment!

This recipe for “tandoori-style” chicken with rice & mango is our absolute fav.  It’s one of the only things Fiance will ask for (he’s usually not particularly helpful when I ask for requests).  But if you make it DO NOT waste all the delicious sauce on marinating the chicken.  I actually make the recipe as written but only use a little bit of the yogurt sauce to marinate 1-2 chicken breasts and keep the rest to eat the finished product with.  SOOO GOOOD
