Oh no. πŸ™   I’m sorry.  Can you possibly have it set in something else down the road?

If you are allergic to the nickel in your white gold ring, you will have to get platinum to stay in the white metals family. You could switch to a high quality yellow gold and you would be fine too.

@kaliella:  Not sure you want to do this with an expensive ring, but some girls paint the inside with clear nailpolish to keep the metal from directly touching their skin. Idk how long it lasts, but I’ve read about it on here before.

@kaliella:  Is it possible to wear something between the ring and your finger? Like plastic ( well not plastic) or something similar so your skin is not touching the ring? Have you spoken with the jewler? Would exchanging it be covered under your insurance coverage for the ring?

Don’t give up just yet!  It very well could be moisture, dampness, maybe even a bit of sweat that sat under there while you were moving and created dermatitis.  I had it happen one summer when my fingers were a bit swollen and I was wearing my platinum band.  I had to leave it off for a good two weeks with a bit of ointment on it, it cleared up just fine and I’m still able to wear rings.

@asscherlover: I do that with my earrings that have nickel in them. Works like a charm. It would definitely be a good temporary quick fix until OP figures out something more permanent.

@mrsSonthebeach:  Yes that was my next suggestion. Platinum setting on down the road

How about coating it in clear nail polish until you can get a new one in platinum or palladium?

You could look into palladium. It is a white metal but cheaper than platinum. I know that means a different ring, so you might want to try the nail polish trick or something first.

Is your ring too loose? This has happened to me periodically over the years….my ring will get too loose and then water/moisture gets trapped underneath the band.

Aquaphor moisturizer helps a LOT!

Is it possible for a jeweler to just put yellow gold on the inside of the ring, where it touches your finger? I don’t know how expensive that would be, but that way you wouldn’t have to see it and it would still protect your finger? Maybe ask if you could do an inlay or something like that on the inside?

Palladium is an option that can be cheaper. Also, you might be able to find a nickel-free alloy of white gold.
