Bee’s I really need your help.
I collected my engagement ring today as I returned it due to one of the prongs being ‘off’ and it only ever looking ‘right’ if it was a certain way round on my finger. Also it wasnt quite set central.
They altered it but I now see that the part of the prongs that hold the diamond are all slightly different sizes and shapes. Also on one side they are set closer together than on the other. It is very slight but noticible. I am so upset and frustrated. I admit I am very picky when it comes to details (slight OCD) and on a simple solitaire feel it is important the little details are perfect. I explained all this to the jeweller.
I dont know what to do, am I expecting to much? The jeweller has been great but has already changed the ring once and altered the setting before today so I am embarrassed to go back but at the same it is such a big purchase and something I will wear for life!
Im so upset and now wish I had just left it as it was. I dont know who else to talk to that would understand like the Bee’s xx

Pictures would help to see what you’re talking about. I am slight OCD too, and there is a new scratch in my ring that I am upset about. I feel your pain. However, I worked in computer repair and I do know that it is impossible to get something that is not brand new (I consider not brand new to be anything that has left the store) to look perfect. We had people complain about scratches/misalignments/etc that are just impossible to fix, and this has helped me with my OCD

Maybe take it to another jewelry store and see if they can see the same imperfections. If they can, bring it back to the original place and calmly and sweetly explain your problems. Maybe even draw them a picture and ask if they think this can be fixed to your satisfaction.

Take it back until they make it right. The prongs should not be all different shapes and sizes, and they should be spaced evenly.

they are details that should be perfect on your ring I completely agree with that… but what shape is your diamond? if it is not a perfect circle or perfect square sometimes they need to be set slightly differently to hold the stone secure.
If you are going to be super picky about it you could go find a micrometer and measure them to see how far off they are. Or ask your most detail oriented friend so see if she notices something before you meantion it. Maybe you are just being hard on it?

They should make it right and shouldn’t make you feel like you are being “picky”, offset prongs on my ring would drive me bananas

Not the best photo as it was taken on my phone and can’t get it to show the detail but it does show the uneven prongs. Please be honest if you think i’m being picky.
(Wow, sorry for the huge picture, I’ve no idea how to make it smaller!)

I can see it. Take it in. Maybe get a written confirmation that it is uneven from another jeweler!!

I see the difference in the prongs. Being a perfectionist with mild OCD myself, that would really bother me. If your jeweler won’t fix it to make it right, he/she obviously needs a lesson on customer service. It is their “artwork” and they should do whatever they can to make it look the way it’s supposed to.
Try a new jeweler!

I”m not horribly OCD, but I am picky. That being said, it is quite obvious the prongs are off and that would drive me insane. I know that these things can’t be PERFECT (each ring is unique, etc, etc) but the prongs are quite obviously not right. I would get him to fix it again, or just go to another jeweller.

yeah, they do look very uneven. make the jeweler redo it! if they don’t do it for free, write them some bad reviews online.

My prior ring from my ex had the same issue. You arent alone in wanting it even. I am no jeweler but feel like it cant be that hard!!! Do not be afriad to give it back until they get it right, or go elsewhere to get it fixed.
