So, Ive been thinking about it lately and I think I’m wanting to cut all my hair off. I’m pretty sure I’m ready for something drastically different. My hair is waist-length, crazy thick and curly (it is straightened in the pics I am posting) and I am just SO tired of taking care of it. Plus, it just hangs there like a lump and gets in my way.
When I say I want it all gone, I mean all… I think. I haven’t decided if I want to go all out or just do something that is a nice middle ground. So, here are the options, give me a couple opinions ladies.
Oh, and Darling Husband is all for me going super short if I want to. I’ve done it before and he really liked it (I think it’s only because he doesn’t have to sleep with my hair in his face though, lol.)
Here is me now. Excuse the crappy bathroom pics, it’s the best I could do. I am terrible at self-portraits and I didn’t realize the mirror was a bit dirty until after I took them.

Option #1: Short, shaggy pixie. Pros: Hair is easier to control, use WAY less hair product, easier to dye, it’s fun and cute, it keeps it off my neck for summer, i’ve had it this short before and I loved it. Cons: a HUGE change, I will have to regularly straighten it, I wont have any hair to keep me warm in the winter. lol

Option #2, a mid-length cut with funky layers. Pros: I dont have to lose all my hair, Its cute, my hair is curliest at this length. Cons: My hair is at its curliest at this length, it’s safe.

Option #3 keep my length and just get a trim and get it re-layered.
Opinions?

Technically you could go through all those options! That’s what I would do. Start with the longest and least drastic, then work your way up.

Ohhh I looove the first option the most!! But I’m not sure how it would look if you have super curly hair

@SweetRose2011: My hair is really more small waves than actually curly.

@zippylef: then I think it would look really cute as a short cut. I like that idea but if you are really nervous about it I second what others have said and cut it short gradually, that way you don’t have to cut it shorter if you change your mind.

I think the second option. It’ll take some of the weight off the end of your hair, but not be so drastic.

My hair was exactly your length and then I cut it to the collar bone. I love it! I donated my 10+ inches to Pantene’s Beautiful lengths program. Have you considered donating it?
Either way, I am sure you will look great!

Go for pixie!!! I did my pwc a few weeks ago and I am so happy I decided to chop it all off! I went from mid-back long to short layers.

I’d suggest getting about 4 to 6 inches off and then seeing how you feel about getting more cut. You do have beautiful hair.

The only issue with cutting it mid-length is that my hair is VERY thick because of my heritage (there is AA and American Indian in there) and it curly/wavy. When you take the weight off of my hair, it gets very, very poofy.
Im leaning heavily toward the pixie. All I do now is wear my hair in a ponytail or braid and I want to get away from that.

I like options 1 & 2. Would having your hair stylist thin your hair out help with the poufiness at mid length?

On thing about a pixie cut – it’s HARD to grow out once your’re tired of it – took me about 2 years and I had to hide the bathroom scissors each time I hit an awkward stage.
