Dont worry about it. Seriously. I got engaged on a camping trip. I hadn’t showered in a couple of days, my hair was in a messy bun, I didn’t have on any make-up. It was still an absolutely perfect moment! And we took a couple of pictures and I still look fine. The joy on your face makes up for any mess!

But if you are really worried:

– Cut your nails shorter (less room for dirt).

– Braid your hair. It won’t get as tangled in braids.

– Take baby wipes. They are light and easy to carry and can help you clean up a bit.

littlebear91 :  first of all…. OMG how exciting… It definitely seems like it’s going to happen and what a wonderful addition of a story to add to a wonderful trip. I would suggest doing your hair in a tight pony tail with product so it stays in place for most of the day. Get a gel manicure and take wipes to clean your hands or hand sanitizer. I carry both WHEREVER I go lol as I don’t like dirty hands. To me even if you don’t feel or “look” pretty ITS OK. Giving the awesome adventure you’re going to be on, and those pics will be the best in my opinion. I love the caught off guard pics . It’ll reflect the real moment with dirty hands and nails lol

Oh, I am so excited for you, Bee!

Just want to share that I was in no way expecting my proposal on the day it happened, and was not dolled up. We went on a cycle on what was one of the hottest days of the year to a beautiful park….all uphill though! I was wearing leggings, and not a single bit of makeup. My Shellac manicure was about 3 weeks grown out. I had slept in my French plaits the night before and had been too lazy to redo them. There were chunks of hair hanging out!

We took photos anyway! My profile photo is actually just after he proposed; the sunglasses are covering my red eyes from crying! None of it mattered on the day, and I have a good laugh about it when I tell the story.

Whatever you do, don’t worry about it. Your happiness & natural beauty will shine through on the day!

Maybe consider a hairstyle that is least likely to get windswept and messy? Something off your face will be less sweaty and help keep you cool.

Use a mattifying sun cream as a base/primer. I love Benefit’s Dream Screen, I actually use it as my daily primer, and often go foundation free as it makes my skin look great!
If you do decide to wear make up, keep it light and natural. There’ll be nothing worse than smudged make up sliding off your face.

Plenty of water to keep you cool and hydrated of course! Maybe pick up a Misting spray to use while you walk.

Seconding PPs who have said get a gel manicure, but something simple like a nice neutral pink or nude so you don’t look OTT “done” for a hike or that you were expecting it. This way the nails won’t over power the ring either.

PS. I kind of hope he does get you that wizard ring, it sounds amazing! Keep us updated 🙂

I’m with hikingbride :  wear braids. Also, if you have a cute bandana, you can wear that over your braids to keep everything under control, and for tears, in a pinch. And baby wipes; genius.

Truth is, after hiking that far and being confronted with that amazing Vista – not to mention your WICKED PEARL WIZARD RING – you’ll be beautifully flushed with exertion & joy. In that setting and circumstance, you can’t help but glow.

Super excited for you Bee! Looking forward to these photos!!

Congratulations that’s awesome that it might happen really soon. I think you’ll be too excited and happy to mind your appearance.  Tight boxer braids could work.

littlebear91 :  I got engaged on an Ice Fishing Trip. We had slept out on the ice for 3 days. I of course wasnt prepared at all, but my lovely FI encouraged me to go shower at the lodge (there was a nearby lodge that allowed us to use their shower facilities) before we started our long drive home. This was kind of a production because we were in the middle of the lake, so it was a decent drive there and back. Even with the shower, I got engaged wearing old sweatpants and a sweatshirt, wet hair, no makeup, and it is all on video. But it was so special because it was just us, and our goofy dog of course!

My main problem while camping/hiking is that elevation makes it really hard for me to stay hydrated, so I wind up with dry skin, and I usually eat a lot of salt (trailmix, etc) which makes me really puffy in the mornings. So make sure to stay hydrated, and keep the salt intake down.

I second PP re either clipping nails down or getting a neutral gel – or actualy SNS dipping powder if you have someone near you who does those – better for your nails!

And I generally take along makeup remover wipes b/c my skin’s too sensitive to use baby wipes for that. And (if you’re a makeup person) bring along just a small tube of BB cream with sun screen so you can look dewy/natural for photos…

Also, I love you guys’ joking dynamic! SO and I are very similar.

That is so exciting! I got engaged on day 4 of a 6-day backpacking trip in Lake Tahoe 🙂

PPs have already said most of this, but wearing braids is a good option. I wore a hat; gross hair totally hidden, done! Baby wipes to clean up your face/hands. Take some rings pictures with your fist closed/nails hidden if you’re worried about it. Make sure to wear sunscreen the whole trip (not only so you won’t be burnt in pictures, but also, you know, for health) — if you can find DryTouch sunscreen (and/or tinted sunscreen) that will act as moisturizer too.

But really, it doesn’t matter! This will be a very exciting time, and it’s so wonderful to get engaged in a beautiful and meaningful location. No one will care that you’ve been out in the wild for a few days 🙂
