- Wedding: September 2013
As a painter, I work with my hands a lot, so I’ve taken to wearing the matching wedding band around instead of my engagment ring. I didn’t want to nick it or get paint all over and in it. The engagement ring belonged to my fiance’s great grandmother. She lived to be 103 years old, and was born in 1898 and died in 2001. It is very precious to me and it means a lot.
Well, I went to go put it on since I haven’t worn it in a few weeks and it wasn’t there!!! I keep it in this special little jewlery box and it just wasn’t there. I threw away a jar of jewlery cleaner last week and my only hope was that it was still in the dumpster outside.
I practically tore apart our apartment looking for it and then ran outside and started rifling through the trash. I grabbed any bags that looked like ours and brought them into the kitchen. As my fiance sifted trash from full bags to empty ones looking for the ring cleaner container I finally saw it at the bottom. I pulled it out and it was EMPTY! At this point I started reconciling with myself that I probably wasn’t going to find it. There was another jar of mysterious ring cleaner that had gone missing and I was convinced that I haphazardly threw that one away too, only with the ring inside. This whole time I’m running around hysterical and crying.
I started thinking about going to the dump to try to find it (which is ridiculous) and then I called my mom to see if I left it in the ring cleaner at her house. (I like to clean my ring a lot. Thinking about food particles from doing dishes getting stuck in the setting grosses me out.) Well she didn’t find it anywhere either and just as my hopes came crashing down and I started half assed digging through garbage my fiance finds it on a shelf!!! I haven’t been this happy ever! I’m putting this baby on and not taking it off ever again. I can’t even believe it…it could have easily gotten thrown away in my old jewlery cleaner. I thought I was so careful. Let this be a friendly warning to all y’all with engagment rings and scattered brains. The next time this sucker comes off is when they pry it off my old dead finger… Hopefully like 100 years from now. Perhaps this ring has secret powers of longevity 🙂
