I thought I wanted a big ring too. I tried on a 4 ct total weight ring when we went shopping for e-rings and it was both of our least favorite. Mine is 1.5 total weight and i love it. It looks just right on my finger!
I wouldn’t mind “upgrading” later on in life if we could afford it, but I don’t think I would go bigger than 3 ct tw. That’s just my preference!

I know this was/is an old thread but I found the topic interesting since I have somewhat done the same thing. I never really looked at the actual CT weight for the whole ring, as I liked a certain setting (round halo, single band). I didn’t want anything too big or gawdy, so I found a great simple/perfect 1CT T.W. online that I always gravitated to. When we went to the store a couple weeks ago (yes, a box store) to look at it – I was not impressed. Although the price was right, it was all wrong on my finger and was TOO small. I don’t have big hands by any means, but it just wasn’t right – and my boyfriend agreed. He asked to see the same style but in a bigger CT, and that was one was perfect (1.75 T.W. – the diamond will be .75 CT). It’s not huge, but it’s too small… just right. I am really exicted to get it, whenever he proposes. 🙂

@Kacie209: I am dissapointed this thread is so old, too. I did the same thing. I saw a black and white diamond band (I had it in my head that I wanted and engagement band and a wedding band) at Zales that I was just drooling over. When we bought it, I still loved it even though it was so so thin and tiny. Then it started losing stones two days later and I upgraded it for a real engagement ring. So I guess you and I kinda actually did the opposite of this thread – we went bigger lol.
