I don’t know about Colorado, but in Washington, the Petsmarts here team up with local shelters and rotate the cats so they get extra exposure. The most common one is called Purrfect Pals, which is where I got my two fur babies. They’re a no-kill shelter and they spay/neuter, give them all their vaccines, and the adoption fee is fairly inexpensive. I think looking around for shelters like this would be a good option – you know that they care for the kitties and make sure they go to a great home (we had to be interviewed before adopting)

Anyway, here are my two fur babies (both girls). I used to work at a vet clinic and we all brought in our babies for a photoshoot 🙂

I will say that my FI said he HATED cats when we first met and I had to persuade him to adopt our first cat. Once we took her home, he was instantly in love. And we got our second cat a couple of months afterwards. He spoils them, always buying them kitty toys, beds, scratching pools, treats, etc. He babies them, it’s so adorable! So don’t be surprised if your DH’s heart starts to melt when you put that kitten in his arms and it starts purring! Good luck and happy cat hunting!

I am all about the kitty fur babies! We have seven of our own lol (insert crazy cat lady comment here). I highly recommend checking out any local shelters or rescues, so many kitties need a home and sadly many never find one. Rescues are the best!

If it weren’t for my FI I would probably be living with 12 cats..haha!! I love cats!

I would defnitley suggest checking out your local animal shelter and adopting a cat. Both of my cats are from the humane society. I had my first cat for 4 years before I got my second cat. I would suggest thinking about getting two. Cats seem to do better when they have a friend. It was a big adjustment for my first cat Oscar to get used to Olive but having a friend has made him less territorial and a sweeter, more caring cat.

oooh!!! when i saw the title i thought hmmm do i ask if i can threadjack because seriously….we got a baby 6 weeks ago and he’s so effin cute….  We originally got a 5 yr old but he decided after 3 weeks that pissing all over the house and on our other cats sleeping areas was a good idea…unfortunately he’s meant to be an only kitty so he’s got a new home now.   We got “Jack” a few weeks later and OMG love HIM!!!!!

Yay! I got a kitty a couple years ago and now my FI loves her so much he calls her our baby. And he hated cats his whole life.

Go to petfinder.com to find local ones. They have all kinds of rescues, not just the SPCA (who I may be morally against). Mine came from a smaller, local operation, feral cat rescue, and I couldn’t be happier. She is the sweetest thing ever. And the money I paid for her all went directly into helping rescue others like her.

I don’t have any pictures on my phone, but she is napping on me while I type this 🙂

You can go to http://www.petfinder.com and put in your location to find cats available at shelters near you. I’d also just google for shelters near your location. Some shelter websites will even put up photos of available pets. When we went to get our cat, Shadow, we just visited a few different shelters until we found the cat that clicked with us! I definitely recommend adopting over buying a cat from somewhere like Petland.

Here’s my cat when he was a little kitty:

And a more recent pic:

Yes, he is destroying our card box in that pic…lol.

@JessMorgan777:  Yes, he thinks he is a dog. Constantly wants to play fetch and is always getting into things! Sorry, it must be a regional thing–Petland is a pet store. You go there and pay $500 for a “breed” but a lot of their pets, especially the dogs, are raised in puppy mills 🙁

Both of our cats were rescues. Our first one (the orange boy) was sassy from the start. Our little grey girlcat was really timid and didn’t seem to want to be around people at all at first, but we bonded pretty quickly–I was protecting her from boycat’s homicidal urges, haha.

And now, for your amusement, I present Cats in Bags.
