I am going to admit something, I wish I had changed out of my ballgown during the reception.  I hate saying that, but it’s true.  I could have and for some reason got busy and didn’t and looking back I wish I had changed into my other dress.  It was very difficult to move around in and after a while it got heavy.

We just went to a wedding this past Saturday, and the poor bride, while gorgeous, could barely walk in her ballgown. The only dancing they did was the middle school sway and when she tried dancing to an upbeat song, she had to hold her dress up to move her legs. All the other weddings I have been to, the brides ALL wore a-lines, so I had never thought about how cumbersome the dress could become because they were all able to move rather comfortably.

I will give my vote and say yes, look for a reception dress, but don’t feel like you HAVE to have one. My friend’s gown was much fuller than how yours looks in the pic’s BUT if dancing and mobility are super important to you, then a reception dress might be a good investment.

@MrsRugbee: Check out Scarlettscloset, they have a ton of options right now at the $200 range.  They are samples but really good condition.  Check out all the sections as they “hide” great options in the higher end sections still at $200.

I just wanted to pipe up and say that you look A-MAZING in your first dress!!! Wow!!  Gorgeous!  Also, if you have the budget for the second dress, go for it!  It’ll be fun to dance in something a bit less heavy.  🙂

@tksjewelry: Me too.  When I started wedding planning, I just couldn’t understand why anyone would spend so much money on a wedding gown to only wear one day, and then buy a second dress to change into halfway through the night.  Now, I understand.  I wanted to dance so much more than I did.  It was hard to get down to “Born This Way” when I was carrying around twenty pounds of dress and practically suffocating due to my inability to take deep enough breaths.

I say go for it!  If you’re looking forward to dancing, you will be glad you got a reception dress!

omg changing dresses was the single best decision i made for the wedding!!!! I danced in my dres (Sottera and Midgley Adorae) through the hora.  I wasn’t supposed to change until much later in the evening.  But i was SOOOOO hot and sweaty, and literally melting, that i changed earlier.  Like i said – best decision ever. I was able to dance and enjoy the rest of the night and not melt in a puddle! i say – DO IT!!!!

Not to thread jack but This is what I am thinking but its wayy big and in ivory, would get white for my winter wedding!. Future Sister-In-Law also said it made me lok too young, like a teenager… Im 28. I love it though! felt like a bride and the FIRST dress I tried on without thinking of changing a single thing. All other ones I would have to. Just need a  crinoline under:))
