Having my mum on the opposite side of the North Atlantic I totally understand your need for some one on one time with your mum. Don’t let anyone get in the way of that!
If I were in your shoes I would tell your Fiance “You know what, you spilled the beans… I love your mum but I need some alone time with mine, you make your mum understand that in a way that doesn’t upset her too much”.

Thanks everyone–I think I’ll email her today. It’s just so awkward since I already acted excited/like it was a go. Argh! Oh well, next time I’ll bite my tongue and weather the awkward silence!

what if you kind of schedule a dress shopping day and lunch with your Mother-In-Law BEFORE your mom comes out. I mean you could probably narrow down some things and that would mean not spending 8 hours dress shopping. I don’t know if your Mother-In-Law has daughters, she might just want to spend some time with you one on one … to bond.

@Buttercupmcgee: She really should understand. A simple, you know what MIL- I really appreciate your help and input, but my mom really needs me right now. We need to spend Saturday together, talking and blah blah blah. I know I will need your help when it comes to (choosing flowers, hair/makeup input) so let’s plan on doing that (soon, date etc).

@HisIrishPrincess: That’s a good suggestion–my only concern is that she LOVES my mom and a big part of her excitement has to do with seeing her soon.

@Buttercupmcgee: if she’s going to be here for the whole weekend, i think you can make time for one thing- breakfast or something. i wouldn’t let her in on the whole day, but give a little bit.

@Buttercupmcgee: Ok you are SO lucky they do love each other. Maybe just invite her for lunch or dinner all together. I totally get what you’re talking about, living away from my family and so little time, it’s so nice to get that one on one time.

Maybe invite her to go dress shopping but not lunch afterwards. Since she will be traveling a distance to come – have your fiance help and have him suggest she do lunch with just him after dress shopping? he sort of got you into this mess – he should help you get out of it. haha
