black is the best!! so classy and elegant and i could go on and on!! what about switching to charcoal instead just to keep everyone happy? that way you can keep your theme/venue/ decor still with the black but you can shut up (scuse the expression) anyone that has issues.

Psh! Doesn’t said Aunt know that you can NEVER go wrong with classic colors?! I’ve actually been to a couple of weddings whose colors were black and I thought it looked fab! It will be wonderful for photos! What better way to stand out from your BM’s on your special day?!

For a black and white color scheme, black dresses will look beautiful! Especially against your off white dress.

I love the black.  It’s your wedding!  YOU do what YOU want.

With that being said, is it the black dresses she is worried about or the fact your dress is ivory and the decor white?

I will probably end up going with black for my bridesmaids dresses and I think that it will look beautiful and classic just as previous posters have said. She’s entitled to her opinion, but its your wedding.

I’ve been in and to several black and white weddings, and the bride has been in off white more than once. It’s beautiful and very classic. Let your FI’s aunt think whatever she wants – most people’s opinion will be how beautiful it looks! I say go for it!

I wore black as a bridesmaid, and to be honest, at first I was a little worried that it would look to dark for a joyous, summery occassion. Turns out I was totally and completely wrong!!! All us bridesmaids looked great and felt super comfortable, and we got dresses that we could wear again.  In the photos, our bouquets really popped against the black dresses. I say go for it!

Tell her to shut up. If you have an awful looking wedding, then it’s your business, not hers.

But your wedding won’t look awful, because lots of folks have black dresses, and they didn’t look awful.

Just tell your darling aunt that you have things under control, because you do :). Is your dress more of a tan color or more of a one shade darker than white? Either way, you’ll look fine.

If it’s a cream color, you’ll stand out beatifully like the bride in the pic LetsGoPens posed. If it’s super close to white, people won’t be able to tell it’s not white, and you’ll match your decor. Either way, you win!

Don’t let her get to you too much!

ETA: Black dresses always look fantastic. Don’t even worry about that one.

I agree, I love the look of a black and white wedding! We’re doing black and a subtle gold (almost a champagne color). I think black looks great, plus the colors will pop! Ditto to what everyone else said :-).
