It won’t look awful! I went a friends wedding where her bridesmaids wore black and she had an off white/champagne colored wedding dress and it looked great 🙂

Yeah… she is completely nuts. Also, who says that? I’m doing black bridesmaids’ dresses (of their own choosing) with my dark ivory gown. Don’t even worry about it. As others have said, it’s a classic!

She is crazy. My girls will be in black and it is becoming more and more popular because it is MUCH more flattering, they actually have the ability to wear them again and it looks just plain classy. Ignore them. Put your girls in black!

My dress is ivory and my Bridesmaids will be wearing black dresses. I am having my dress amde by a well known designer who is making is custom for me. She actually recommended and agreed with me on the Bridesmaids color. She said it is the most classic and beautiful combination. She did have one good recommendation though…..make sure that the groom and best men do not wear bleached white shirts. You can request that they wear an ivory or offwhite shirt so that it does not make you dress look dirty. For our wedding we are having a black tie theme….but our tables will be white. I am taking a small piece of the fabric my dress is made from and I am bringing it in as a sample to make sure I don’t get anything too white!

I think you will be very happy with the black bridesmaids dresses. It will look amazing with your dress and make you stand out. It will also be perfect with your damask theme!

@rr369: your color scheme sounds very similar to mine! My dress is ivory, my decor is black & white damask, and my girls will be wearing long black dresses. I think some older generations just haven’t gotten on board with black & white as wedding colors just yet, but I think it is classic and beautiful. My FH’s grandma actually told me (in broken English/Italian) that my wedding is “for the dead people”. LOL. Pretty sure she is saying that my wedding looks like a funeral! But I don’t care. It will look fab and so will yours 🙂

I agree w/everyone Aunt is crazy or just going by some “old school” etiquette rule of things brides “aren’t to do” HAHA. Black is so classy and elegent and your Maids will look wonderful next to you…ummm and I am biased and well because my girls will also be rocking the black as well and dressed of their own choosing too. You all will look stunning next to each other and remember through it all this is your wedding and not your aunts…yes a mantra I repeat to myself when things seem to get crazy and drama filled. 😉

I wanted my bridesmaids to wear black but the decision was changed after realizing how hot it would make them feel for an outdoor wedding in July. I say why not go with black, if that’s what you want!
