I agree, totally unacceptable.  

Have you tried going to a different Kays and looking at the rings there?  If they vary so much you may be able to find one that looks as good as yours (which is beautiful by the way!) even though it does stink to not have the original one your Fiance proposed with. Or is it an option to set the diamonds from yours in a new setting?  

Those are really the only two options I can think of, short of getting your money back and getting a completely different ring.  Hope you can find a solution soon, I would be so upset to be without my ring for that long!

That sounds terrible! My boyfriend proposed on 7-28-12 and purchased the ring the day before the proposal from Kay Jewelers. The day after the proposal we took the ring to get it sized down from the original size 7 it comes in. The lady at Kay kept sizing me down all the way to size 4, which I told her seemed to be too tight (size 4.5 seemed better). She insisted that it needed to be that tight because I wouldn’t want to lose such an expensive ring. While I agree with her, I’m extremely worried that the size 4 is going to be too small (especially since we take trips to higher elevations where my finger might swell). But what do I know, right?

They told us that they would not be able to size down a size 7 ring to a size 4 because the diamonds would not fit properly and might fall off if it was resized that much, so instead, they would custom make another ring in the size 4 I needed. In the meantime, I would get to keep the current size 7 ring with a “spacer” to keep it on tight.

My fiance thought the girl told us it would take 4-7 weeks to get the new ring. And I’m 99% certain I heard 3 weeks. It’s been almost 3 months now and I still haven’t gotten the new ring. When my fiance called at one point she told him that it should indeed have taken about 2-3 weeks and they would check on it. Time went by and we still hadn’t heard anything so my fiance called again only to be told that the ring would take “no longer than November 15” which will be a total wait of 3.5 months!!!

I totally sympathize with you how disappointing it is to go to bridal appointments without an engagement ring!

I’m worried that the new size 4 ring is going to be too small and it’ll be even longer for them to send that ring out for resizing again. I would hate to be in your shoes! At least I have a ring for now, but it’s kinda sad that I won’t end up with the same ring my fiance proposed with. I’m really weird when it comes to things like that; I attach sentimental feelings to inantimate objects!

I dont understand why they do not just replace the gold that is there so that the back of the ring is more durable! I got my ring from Kay’s and after and finger swelling mishap that ended in my e-ring being mutillated and me being in tears Kay sent my ring off and removed the damaged gold and replaced it with ‘non-damaged’ gold i suppose (and fixed loose diamond settings)… so honestly there is no reason why they should not be able to do the same for you! I would demand that they fix the one that you currently have!

I know a lot of people have had bad experiences with Kay (and resizing) but thankfully mine was successfully sized twice – phew. My suggestion would be the same as PPs, go look at another Kays and see what they have to offer. I completely agree with you though in that this is completely ridiculous and they NEED to get it fixed.
