- Wedding: May 2011 - Bartram's Garden
We still have 14 months, so it’s too early to talk about it, but I’ve got honeymoons on the mind today.
There are so many places we’d like to go. Resorts aren’t really our thing, but there are so many non-resort options that it’s making my head spin. Here’s the short list of places we’ve discussed:
- Spain (specifically Madrid and Barcelona)
- Argentina (Buenos Aires and Patagonia)
- Greece (Mykonos and Santorini)
- New Zealand
- Dubrovnik, Croatia
- Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto)
- Ometepe Island, Nicaragua
Do you guys have a short list of honeymoon destinations or have you made up your minds yet? Give me some ideas!

After much heated debate, we’re going to Anguilla! Relaxing, beautiful beaches, not too long of a flight, and non-touristy. Excited!

Danadelphia…try Portugal. We stayed at a B&B there (Casa Do Valle — very clean, beautiful scenery!). Portugal is amazing!!! The people are friendly, and you get castles, history, beaches, hills, scenery, culture, food, etc. We stayed in Sintra and took the train/bus for day trips all over. Sintra is like “suburb” 40 mins train ride away from Lisbon so you can easily do both. If you have more time, the beach town of Cascais & Estoril are only a bus ride away. It’s cheaper than most of the major destinations in Europe and it’s less touristy. They are super friendly! Fiance & I would live there if we could.

We thought about Argentina, too! We settled on Peru because neither of us is very “beachy” and we’d love to see the Amazon.

We’re going to Thailand. Morocco is amazing. We actually did a trip where we flew into Portugal and then went to Spain and Morocco before flying home. It was amazing.

I lived in Japan for a year and took a vacation to Koh Phi Phi Thailand. It. Was. Amazing. I highly recommend it – the most relaxing vacation on the planet, food and drinks are dirt cheap, people are friendly, the beaches are breathtaking – it seriously doesn’t get any better. Just my two cents. 🙂
Danadelphia, I think you and I have a lot in common. 🙂

I wanted to go everywhere too! Travel is my #1 interest and it was so hard to pick a spot. I would suggest thinking what type of honeymoon you want first and then choosing spots. For us, when we sightsee, we are very intense, getting up early and running around all day to hit everything we’re interested in. We can’t imagine going to a place and not seeing all the big attractions. So we realized that going to a place with lots to see would be tiring and chose Hawaii, where we could relax without feeling guilty that we were missing out.
If you do want something more active, I would recommend Europe. Prague is super-romantic (we got engaged there!) as is Madrid (we started dating there…I’m kind of biased, lol) and the south of Spain.

my fi and i went to egypt two years ago! it was GORGEOUS! we did a 15 day trip, we had our own tour guide (actually 2 of them), took an overnight train from cairo to aswan, took a 4 night nile cruise back up to luxor (best decision ever! we slept and ate meals on the ship and then got off 2-3 times per day in a new location for guided tours of the area!)! it was amazing! flights ran about $900 each, and the inclusive trip (guide, hotel, all fees for ruins, food, everything!) was about $1000 per person! definitely the trip of a life time and affordable!
good luck choosing a place! all your options seem like a lot of fun!
